Bloody hard work it was - serves me right for being tight and buying the cheapest trailer (think its 16kg and the dog is around 14kg). Didnt help that we took a wrong turning and added in a hill that wasnt supposed to be there!!! All fun though :-)0 -
For me it was the first DNF brevet. I finished it, but missed the second info... as I don't think the GPS route supplied and the route card matched (7 km difference). Didn't spot the third info either, at that point I gave up on validation.
There were two controls at 79 and 93 km... way too close, so I didn't bother with the first (Ponderosa up the Horseshoe)... basically I just rode my bike around the course...
Unsurprisingly I was the first one back... :-)
Missed out on 2 AAA points, which I could do with, not a big deal, but in all honesty I am a bit fed up with organisers who can't put together a GPS file... we are in the 21st century after all...left the forum March 20230 -

If i remember correctly one of the info points took you off the main road for about 100m, to the info point then back to where you came from. My GPS missed that one and also setting off everyone who used GPS went the wrong way then had to turn round! Annoying!0 -

It shouldn't... but some organisers like to add cryptic instructions for "extra fun" to their events.
I guess the first lesson about Audax is that Audax UK is only a validation body and doesn't organise anything... it's all down to individuals... some are amazing, others less soleft the forum March 20230 -

There are still a few, but they are a dying breed now, who dont think Audaxes should use GPS. You used to see alot more with mini clip-boards lashed to their handlebars with the cue cards on, I even used to see some with little scroll devices where they turned the handle to move up a rolled piece of paper with the instructions on. I think even those that cling to this have a GPS running in tandem these days though.0
