BBC 2 sport said that Thomas avoided a a crash. I imagine this was nothing? No one has mentioned it.

I think Sky might have something with this Earth-saving malarkey. It's damn hot here and around Europe. Where's the rain?

There is 19km to go in case anyone wanted a race update.

I think we had some in mid June, for a couple of days. It's insane, it's basically been hot and sunny since the beginning of May.

    Yeah, it's mad.

Sagan near the front. It was obvious he was going to win.

They’re using old HTC tactics which are out of date now. They’ll be swamped by smaller units coming fast in the last 2km.

Very happy to open the site up and only see 4 pages in the spoiler thread, I’ll be nervous for G until he finally crosses that line on the Champs!

I've managed to tweak an add-on that we aren't allowed to mention to kill it now.

Why do colleagues insist on talking to me when there is only 2km to go. Happens every day.

Bit naughty closing Laporte out like that - I reckon the Cofidis man had a chance of taking that in a clean sprint.

Anyone else see the irony in covering their kit with logos about ditching plastic, while they're sat on predominately plastic bikes, wearing plastic clothing and probably shoes, with plastic helmets on their heads, using and then discarding 10+ plastic bidons every day, as well as countless plastic gel wrappers?

I don't think there's any other way to do the race, and better they get the message out than not, but still seems rather ironic...

They get a clear message from me that now is not the right time!
  • With barely any real sprinters left, of whom Demare is clearly struggling and Sagan took a whack yesterday, the fight to get into the break might be the most interesting part of today's stage as people gamble on nobody working to bring them back later.

A Laporte win would be the praline on the almond for me

That's a small amount of destruction for the greater good of Earth-saving.

There is certainly another way to do the race. There’s no need to leave a trail of bidons and (worse) gel wrappers on the ground. I thought Sky would unilaterally stop doing that while wearing those jerseys, but they didn’t even make that minimal effort (unless I’m mistaken).

Meanwhile, the rules should be changed to ban the littering for all riders. The practice adds nothing to the race and legitimatises the bad behaviour I see from weekend warriors. Like a lot of things in cycling, it’s pointless, backwards looking, and trivially fixed. So of course nothing is done about it.

They should make teams have pre-determined pitstops (not necessarily at the same place in a stage) where their riders pull over and refill their same water bidons all race, while discarding their rubbish instead of throwing it to the roadside (which some planks in amateur riding won't twig that TDF have rubbish pickers to clean the circus mess up) etc.

Edit: Not to mention the lack of eco-friendliness of all those motorised vehicles ahead, in-between and behind the riders.

I thought they'd introduced rules that littering had to take place in certain zones which were then cleaned. Bidons can be chucked at fans ( in the Tour anyway - not all races have fans on the road) and are likely to be hoovered up as souvenirs - gel wrappers should be put in pockets and if they are wearing a pocketless skinsuit well it's easy to legislate on tha.

I have a print photo of the riders doing just that on my loo wall - taken in the 1921 tour
