FDJ didn't feel confident letting that gap grow.

I think FDJ were keeping the break close because they didn’t trust themselves to close it down otherwise. Not many teams interested in helping them, of course.

Now Stuyven, Gogl, and Vanmarcke have formed a chasing group of terrifying speed. The lead five have accelerated rather than wait for the reinforcement of that trio.

Interesting that Trek-Segafredo don’t want a sprint with Degenkolb … or do they just want FDJ and UAE Emirates to do all the chase work?

Now the gap has gone out to a more sensible margin of over 2 minutes, but how much effort have they already expended?
GroupFDJ and UAE will be hoping that Bora will join in when the chase does begin.

Hayman punctures. On disc brakes so changing the wheel took an eternity.

Sagan has sewn up the green jersey.

I didn't think he'd have the skills for needlework. Maybe he used that invisible webbing stuff!

Sagan has sewn up the green jersey, has already won three stages, and has now crashed heavily. Even if he physically could be in contention today, I see no reason for him to try too hard. Risks crashing again and not making it to Paris.

He'd be stupid not to rest up for a shot on the Champs. He'll never get a better chance of winning in Paris.

This stage is so dull I'm wandering who'd win the sprint between the Watchfinder General and the Tel Aviv alley cat...

    Yes, with Hatch

In the giro they were messing around with different teams on the player and the TV channel though, which meant that it was sometimes possible to avoid CK

Team Dimension Data's Mark Cavendish, who fell outside the time limit on stage 11, speaking to ITV2: "I do a different sport to that which Geraint Thomas and Chris Froome do. It is just physiologically impossible to get through some of these stages. I toyed with the idea of coming in super-heavy and super-strong and just going for 10 days and perhaps fell a bit between those two stools.
"Those Team Sky guys work harder than any one else on the road. To see Geraint grow stronger and stronger and look so comfortable makes me so proud."
