Just out of interest are you going up one side then down the other, turning around and doing the same or just up from Eskdale to the highest point and turning around etc?

I think Everesting rules are clear... it has to be up and down the same side

Pointless, yes, dull... depends on the context...I find Hardknott quite pretty... it could be interesting to see how the light changes as the day goes by... if one still care to notice after 10 ascents.

It is a stupid challenge, but it's one that is widely recognised and associated with a legendary mountain... like for like, you'll probably get twice as many thumbs up on social media than climbing the equivalent on a "conventional" ride.

At least, I appreciate the OP effort to use a proper climb, instead a dull 80 metre hill that nobody has ever heard about and presents no challenge at all in itself.

On Balance, Great Dun Fell would be a better choice... with half the number of ascents and no traffic to negotiate

Maybe do it on Dirk to add to the challenge...

There's also the option of starting in Knock and spinning up the first 250m each time. But actually, I disagree that this would be a good climb. GDF is nasty and the prevailing wind usually makes that last 10-15% bit at the top (you know, the one after the very long 20% bit) is normally into a block headwind.

I'd do the Bealach. Decide on the best side based on the weather that day.

And when I say "I'd do the Bealach", what actually mean is, I wouldn't. Twice in a day was enough.

I'd do the Bealach too... shame it's a full day drive away for most people.

I've been really lucky both times I've been GDF, it has been too warm and not enough breeze! I can only imagine what it must be like with a howler, rain and zero visibility.

It's usually kind of like those vids of the abandoned sportive up ventoux, if you ever saw that.

Its not even that much fun coming down because the road has so many blind off camber bends with spring loaded sheep randomly thrown in.

If you do need to do a video or at least take plenty of pics! Dirk could become an internet sensation

The lake district has some of finest cycling routes in the country if not the world and to spend an entire day humping up and down just one of the passes is frankly insane.

Well, that's Everesting for you in a nutshell.
Each to their own though. Edited for clarity of opinion.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

What's with egocentrism and closed mindedness. There are all sorts of people out there with different views and likes. You know what would be truly dull and boring above all? If everyone was the same.

Who cares? Don't do it if you don't want to. How does it affect you in any way at all?

Imagine if it got to the point where Nina wanted to meet up with him. That’d be worth this whole riding up and down a hill malarkey in itself.

    Agree, what's Dirk?

This morning I went up Bushcombe Lane, its the same gradient of Hardknott, but a lot shorter... once was plenty...

I'll be in the area next weekend... I'll have a go instead of doing Cheddar Gorge, which seems a bit easy and maybe better as a way back down to the levels.

Starting from Draycott is the one that on the map comes up as New Road?

    Yep, that's the one https://www.strava.com/segments/659038

It would involve the lottery of crossing the main road, but you can get another ~75 feet on that climb by starting a little to the west of New Rd https://www.strava.com/segments/9770445

Eborr Gorge https://www.strava.com/segments/644948 and Old Bristol Rd https://www.strava.com/segments/659594 cat3s are worth doing around there, if you've not done them before.

Next time I'm over that way, I want to climb Draycott Steep and Burrington Combe https://www.strava.com/segments/629613, I ran out of time last November on the first day of a holiday at Longleat Center Parcs on the Voodoo to tackle more than I did having started from Warminster train station https://www.strava.com/activities/1273656671/overview

Cheddar Gorge is quite fun, but yes for a experienced cyclist its fairly easy, does have goats though! and quite often traffic.

my sister lives nr by some far quieter/interesting/challenging stuff close by.
