Great to see an Irish win! Delighted for Sam Bennett.

I'd also like to add my thanks and appreciation to Blazing Saddles for all the stage threads - the set-up has been superb.

First Irish rider to win the final stage of a GT

(I'm assuming that's true, sometimes you can just take a swing at a stat and it's ok)

If someone hadn't put my name into the mix as a challenge, you would have got away with it. But the gauntlet was laid down so I had to check Kelly and Shay Elliott.

You get an impression how big Dumoulin is, standing on the podium step with Froome.

    https://www.procyclingstats.com/rider/c ... her-froome

According to this and an interview with Brailsford they are much the same size

    You decide.

Lopez rode a smart race didn't he. Didn't do too much compared to say, Yates and Pinot, kept his eye on the main target which was the white jersey and was rewarded with 3rd place as well. Unfortunately for the majority this is how you probably should race a grand tour

Also easy to forget that he crashed before the opening time trial as well. He was 1 min 56 behind Dumoulin after five stages.

Anyhow, now seems as good a time as any, to say to thank folks for their thanks.
I have really appreciated reading all of them.
I was going out for a couple of the stages, but that's been cancelled, so I will be free to knock something up for the Tour. Hopefully, along the same lines as the Giro.

I won't be threading the Dauphine or Switzerland, as I am popping over to Argentina for a spot of oval ball and to drink some of (well lots of, really) their Malbec.

Am I the only one who dislikes everything about Viviani
Among female friends I have who follow cycling, Viviani is thought the best looking of the current top sprinters. :?

Despite the positive opinions in another thread about the likelihood of S-Yates winning a GT, the regular recent praise for Bernal, and the promising possibilities ahead for Soler and now also Carapaz, at the moment I rate Lopez as the most likely of them to be a GT winner, because he showed, as well as ability, (as Jens wrote) how to race a GT.

Thanks for all your Giro-preamble efforts - have a good trip, and don't ignore the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Mendoza area either!

What happened to Froome's pink bar tape and saddle?
During the stage, Froome rode a black saddle, apparently the same Specialized Power he rode during the two previous stages, instead of the usual Fizik Antares, Fizik being one of the Sky sponsors. The pink saddle (a pink-coloured Antares) was only mounted on the bike for the publicity photos prior to the stage start.

Supposedly changed to accomodate a pressure sore garnered during the early stages
