Well, Tommy never cracked would be the counterpoint to that thought - and he's been through that experience himself in 2016.

And he did win the opening TT stage.....

Honestly though, if Yates was due a bad day, today was definitely the day to do it - rather than tomorrow.

yeah i hope this is yates jour mal but i have a feeling he is fading now.

yeah you cant discount TD's tenacity.

    certainly limited his losses.

    That's racing though isn't it.

Perhaps he didn't need to make such big efforts, and would still have been able to stick with TD today. Who knows?

It is, as you say, racing, one still has to follow wheels for the duration. It's also sad to think though that this GT might be won by one, small attack in three weeks.
Hopeful he can recover and along with the likes of Lopez, still buckle the odd swash.

To be fair, not a lot did happen for about three and a half hours, then the last 15 minutes or so were interesting ;-)

Below all from CN. Nice comments from the stage winner. Biggest win of his career and first GT.

    dd_m_wkuqaeoidw_670.jpg

This is what Schachmann had to say for himself on crossing the line.

"I feel amazing. It’s great to win a stage in my first Grand Tour. Everybody agrees that it is a really hard Giro, which makes it even nicer to be on top here.

"Of course, I’m going to help him as much as possible. It’s always nice when somebody wins from our team, it doesn’t matter who. We have a great team and a great team spirit. I just want to mention, a big part of this victory goes to Michael Morkov. The breakaway was already there, he bridged over and took me in his wheel. It’s not the first time that he’s helped me in this race. We’ve shared a room and he’s shared his experience with me. He’s a brilliant rider, he’s our brain and he always plays a big part in our victory."

As for the GC? I can't see Froome getting past TD and Pozzo unless TD has stomach issues and Pozzo has a jour san which is possible but I think unlikely especially after he led both of them over line today.

    Forza Yates, or something.

If Yates hadn’t wrapped up the GC with his TT on Tuesday, he’d be getting worried now.

Pozzo looked plenty strong, although to be fair Yates should have too - nice easy day up until the point he couldn't hold the wheel anymore.

It's still all to play for in the next two days, nice to be reminded of that today.
  • Well, that's made things a lot more interesting.

Still think Yates will do it, but it's going to be close...

Watching that and thinking upon the next two days got me to thinking why our illustrious leader and several other cycling experts think it would be a good idea to cut the Giro to two weeks.
Maybe he is basing the theory on Pinot.

Who wants to cut it to 2 weeks? That must never happen. I will fight them single-handed at a venue and with weapons of their choice.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

Bloomin' heck this could get interesting if Froome and/or Pozzovivo decide to go for a long range attack in the next two days.
