I think it boils down to this:

dress how you want but if I think you're lazy/arrogant/can't be bothered to play the work game at such an early stage then nah fam, you're not for us, ypu're obviously too cool for school

Isn’t getting into your firm more about one’s ability to beast oneself (and to be breasted by others) over many weeks without crying or dying?
to a certain extent, yeah - its all short term pain long term gain but like anything, if you're not playing the game (or in our case, your face doesn't fit), although you can be physically the fittest person ever and great at whatever, you'll get a standing fail, my mob's equiv of not getting a job because you just aren't hitting it from the begining.

We are v v specialised and v v good at what we do, so why get roped up with someone that is going to cause a rucus and mean you divert time from what you are actually meant to be doing?

it boils down to why should you give a role to someone who can't bearsed to even dress up to talk to you?

    Wear the clothes

    Jump through the hoops

    Get what you want

    And chillllllllll.
After all, your lot practically invented the idea of dressing up in stupidly impractical and over the top outfits. Hats in particular. 😏

Flat flooding is a good one.

It's flooded, then it needs to be fixed, then the fixtures need to be fixed, etc

Arrange it outside working hours e.g. 8am. Alternatively at lunchtime.

What job are you now looking at?

Most interview times are take it or leave it.

I would take leave if you can. Clean hands and all that.

People will probably guess either way.

We all work in different sectors. In mine, the time is agreed to be mutually convenient and is either early, lunch or late.

Mine too, but most aren't. Certainly earlier in my career that was the case. I've never understood that personally.

Last time I went for one I got up, got changed in the office, put the whistle.

Someone said "good luck" as I walked out, they got A Big Thumb of Joy.

Got back, got changed, went back to being A Hero.

I suppose it depends who you work with.

Yes someone I worked with got caught interviewing (seen suited and booted in the lobby of a rival firm) near bonus time.

Got zeroed. "if you want to leave I'll make it easy for you".

I once met the guy I shared an office with on a station platform, when I was conspicuously wearing a suit. Seeing as I normally cycled to work then changed into jeans, was tricky to explain.

I've often considered the opposite strategy. Starting to nip out of the office in a suit with really poor excuses. It might make my colleagues think that I will leave.

I signed into a rival company for an interview once and saw one of my bosses signed in just above. Luckily it was from a meeting the day before!

Years ago I had a normal job in a law firm and at the same was knocked off my motorbike, so time off and compo claim that was processed by a rival firm.

I had to go into the rival firm for a compo meeting one day so, being old fashioned, wore trousers, shirt and a jacket. Bit square I know, but hey, its all about showing politeness.

No interview, just a compo meeting.

I got a phone call a couple of days later asking me to go to my employer where I was shown to HR and asked why I was at the other firm, why I was dressed smart and was I having an interview because I had been spotted and grassed up up.

My responses were have a guess considering I was on crutches, because I was, no and I added that if they couldn't trust me then they could shove my job up their backsides.

My resignation followed the same day, started work at a new firm 3 weeks later.

Moral of the story: they don't own you, you just work for them before you find somewhere else.
