I Know helmets can be a personal thing, but all I want is a lid that doesn't sit on my head like a mushroom and allows some heat to escape.
I'm currently on a Kask Mojito and whilst the looks are good for me, I sweat like a bank robber in it, even when the temperature dips, it just doesn't seem to let enough heat out.

Any recommendations for a well ventilated, nice looking lid...happy to pay up to £200 for he right one.

That's pretty much as venty as they come. Some people are sweatier than others. I always wear a buff or cap if its raining underneath my helmet to soak up the sweat.

I really doubt you'll find a helmet that is noticeably cooler than the mojito.

Mojito is one of the best for ventilation.

If it was good enough for Sky in the High Alps in the Tour - it didn't seem to slow them down....
  • I would have a look at the Poc Octal. I've just converted from a Lazer Blade to one and I find it cooler. I still use the Lazer with the Aeroshell on in winter though.
I can't compare it to the Kask though as I have never worn a Kask.

Bugger! Was hoping it wasn’t my lack of match fitness that was causing me to sweat so much!
Oh well, looks like I’ll stick with the Mojito...thanks all

How much natural insulation ( i.e. hair) do you have? I am bald. I have no desire for a hair transplant or to hide the fact that I am bald. I am happy with it but by christ does my head sweat. I do the odd sprint tri and at the bike run transition I struggle to put my run shoes on for the sweat running into my eyes. Does anyone else have this problem?

I used to have the "sweat in your eyes" syndrome with (among other helmets) a Kask Mojito... bought a Castelli headband. Problem solved. A simple bit of kit but it works perfectly.

I really don't believe that a 'sweatless' helmet exists but some are better than others. I have heard good things in that respect about the Mojito and my own Specialised S-Works Prevail is brilliant. However, I do still sweat in the heat (I'm not at all bald but do keep my barnet down to a No. 1 or 2 on the clippers which is as near as dammit!).

I have a Mojito, actually my second one. I wear a cap under it in summer and a skull cap in winter to keep the sweat out of my eyes. Even climbing Teide last summer I had a cap on to keep the sweat out of my eyes.

I am in a similar situation, when abroad. Solution, wear a cap under the helmet. Counterintuitive but the sweat drips off the peak and stays off the face.
Ideally go without anything. I forgot how much better it was but you may not like that option and you will have the “helmet police” on your case.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

As a man of little hair also find the headband a good option

Got to say that I now realise that I maybe do not sweat as much as I thought I did as I have never yet had a problem with sweat running into my eyes!

When I pressed my helmet against my head it would be the equivalent of wringing a sponge out.

Wearing a cap has made a massive difference. A thick one with a buff pulled over the ears is great in winter and a thin one ideal in summer to absorb sweat.

It's wierd riding without one now - oddly much cooler, except in summer.

Drill some ventilation holes in your skull.

Then you are either not riding in hot enough weather, or not trying hard enough.

Get a Castelli Summer Skully for under your helmet, soaks up all the sweat and also stops your head getting stripey sunburn through the helmet vents :D
  • I'm not a Big, sweaty bloke in general.
I don't like caps under helmets, cant seem to get on with them, but I will look into the headband htingy.
    thanks all

Caps or skull caps also stop insects like wasps flying through the vents, getting stuck in the helmet and taking it's frustration out on the rider's head.

I did see this once and it wasn't pretty.

Best thing I've found for hot weather is a Halo Headband - it diverts sweat away from your eyes brilliantly, great if you don't get along with caps, (although they also do a cap version if you do).

As a fellow baldy, I'm a convert to skull caps to keep sweat out of my face and to stop stripy sunburn.
The best I've found are the Assos robofoil caps http://www.wiggle.co.uk/assos-robofoil-cap/
Headbands couldn't cope with the sweat and traditional caps were too hot.

Fellow baldies out there. Please wear a cap. This look isn't cool.

Lazer z1, very cool in the summer an winter you can slap an "aeroshell" on top keeps you warmer and dry Ive used it all winter with just a headband to cover my ears an forehead had no problems, ok tell a lie it was about -5 so I went with a rapha Belgian cap because it was chuffing cold.

Obvious, but the Photoshopper should still use some common sense.

Funny, but bought a Mojito back in 2013 when they first touched down in the UK and have never ever sweated in a lid like that one. Literally pouring down my fore head or regular days too. Needless to say, it was soon sold on. Reading this I was like, ah, so it really was a shocker of a lid.
