Is meant to be brand new but not seen seams with a gap before and didn't want to built it up if it's going to be dangerous.

I wouldn't. It should be pinned or welded.
ps Photography hint. Don't aim you camera at a light source in a dark room when you're trying to photograph your snake, or whatever that first picture is.I don't do smileys.

Have you asked the seller, if in doubt, get refund.
I've heard cheap rims are not welded but are pinned internally but never have come in contact with one so have no idea if this is bad or not.0 -
I don’t like the look of it. The fact that it looks like it goes all the way through. I would send back if you can.Cannondale Trail 27.5 | 2015

The tension from the spokes and air pressure from the tyre should close the gap, so it shouldn't really be a problem.
Looks pretty rubbish though, if you can get a refund might be worth doing.0 -
I wouldn't use that!!! Send it back to where you bought it from.0

Agree with TimW, but it’s not good. Looks like it is a pinned joint so it should hold. A bit shoddy looking though.0

Fair enough, it's an XM319 which I guess must be a cheap rim!
I will contact the seller and see what happens.0 -
Not at all unknown for pinned rims to do that, spoke tension will pull it closed, nothing to be worrried about at all.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Build it and see. If the gap closes as it should then don't worry.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0
