Team Jerseys

No stripes or leaders jerseys. You didn't earn them.
Disagree with that, I definitely have earned it.
And by earned it, I refer to the "TDF Green jersey" we bought as a group of mates - when we have a cycling weekend the "sprint winner" gets to wear the jersey the second day. So I have earned it (albeit maybe I didn't beat the pro cyclists, but that's just because they didn't turn up! )0 -
If you like a particular team or design, then wear it. I have a Wanty jersey from last season, and as soon as the new ones go on sale I'll get one of those as well. I like the team and don't mind supporting them in that way.
I do draw the line personally at national or world stripes though. Wouldn't feel right to wear them, but if others want to, who am I to judge?0 -
Wasn't there this same topic about 10 to 15 pages long already in here?
I'm amazed the number of times team kit will invoke a person to suddenly find another 20 to 30 watts as you go around them locally. Most strong riders locally are mature enough to not try that kind of mess. It's always the guy who one minute later is gasping and dying aside the road or cycle path.0 -

Couldn’t agree more. People can wear what they want, but.....
Wear what you want.
Anyone who has an issue with it needs to be sent on a two week all-inclusive holiday to Syria to get a little bit of perspective.0 -

What? If you're a fat bloke struggling to breathe on the flat wearing a KOM jersey, be prepared to have the piss taken relentlessly. WC stripes and NC stripes are the preserve of those that earned them, not Joe/Jo the wannabe. If you wear them, I'll be asking for your autograph all day long and asking what championship you won. Its no different to the sad idiots that go in 2nd hand shops buying pawned trophies to stick in their cabinets at home.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0 -
The bright Lampre jersey is cool, love the pink! Sadly would not suit me. Only real men can wear pink and I'm still a little boy!
Agree with not wearing championship stripes, but apart from that, go for your life, wear what the hell you want!0 -

I have no issues with that. It's actually quite a cool idea!0 -

Utter bollox. If you're the kind of person that would relentlessly rip a fat man wheezing up a hill just because he's wearing the KOM jersey then it says a lot more about you than him.0 -

yep, totally agree. people can wear what they like!0 -
If I see a fat bloke wheezing up a hill in lycra I may well wish I hadn't seen it for a moment, I would then have a word with myself and say at least he's out there trying to do something about it and should be encouraged. Wouldn't think twice about what the particular piece of lycra was.0

I'd think it was quite amusing. It's possible, even probable that the wearer knew what it meant and still decided to put it on, just to give 2 fingers to the haterz.0

If donning that polka dot jersey before every ride sparks a little extra motivation that gets him out riding and improving his fitness little by little then bloody good on him. Should be applauded, not ridiculed.0 -
Wear what you want, Castelli will do a non Sky Team edition garment if it really bothers you. Was out for a ride on Sunday with my mate who hard Sky Team kit on, I thought it looked good to be fair..Paracyclist

Utter total bollox. Utter utter total bollox. The sort of commen5 that makes people not bother going out on their bike at all.
See posts passim.
If I saw someone doing that to someone I’d Take the wee wee out of them before burning them off.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

You could always aspire to a local amateur team kit.
The sort of outfit that turns up for races but never organises any.
It's the way to go.0 -
Life is far too short. Wear what you want and if anyone gives you grief just smile, continue with what you were doing and don't take the criticism to heart.0
-
I am too self centered to worry about what other people are wearing. I love the old Moviestar kit and if it matched my bike I would wear it!
Wear what you like apart from a leather thong on a bike, that I might take exception to. I sit on the fence with the championship jersey and stripes though0 -

It would be funny to give a retired pro that DOES have a real KOM jersey a loaner "normal" looking road bike and have them film a spin with one of these pretentious UK group rides. Someone just not quite noticeable enough that got a KOM jersey at something like a Tour of Utah 10 years ago.
Then let them destroy the shit out of the haters and have the guy/gal still claim they "just liked the jersey and bought it".
It's amazing the responses this topic brings up from the haters. I'm guessing lots of this is on A-group rides with a mix of egos. Lots of actual racers local to me will wear pro team kit for training "hammer" race sim rides because they're a cheaper entry into a more aero kit. If you're taking a turn at 24+ mph you could care less if you bought last year's Team Sky kit on closeout instead of a non-team kit Castelli or expensive stuff. It's often 1/2 the cost. And if you're not racing on a team, you're just some nobody on a shoestring budget.
I wear our company's pro team kit because it's discounted to employees and dirt cheap for an aero fit training kit.
Let one of the ego A-group riders pick on the racer in a fake team kit one time......dropped.0 -

why doez it have to be an "ex pro"? just because they are in a club jersey doesn't actually mean they are any good ..Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

Has to be an ex pro because the point of his scenario is to have an unknown someone with an earned / real kom jersey do it.0 -
I don't think its A-team racers. The better the rider you are, the more you let the legs do the talking and give a thumbs up to anyone who's getting out there. Obviously there are snobs in all walks of life, but it's just riding a bike - you know, a bit of fun, some exercise and a bottomless pit of expenditure.
The people with the issues about what other people wear....I mean what the actual fuck?0 -
Quite tempted to buy a WC bands top just to annoy people.
I bet Sagan wouldn't care a jot.0 -
I even signed the guestbook "Jacob Fuglsang" (not really)0 -

You could have signed it Jemima Puddleduck and I would still say that it’s a nice set up you have I. That piccie.
More clubbie snobs it annoys the better.

Nah - the point of this scenario is to laugh at plonkers who care what people wear and think they have the authority to tell people how to dress and what they can spend their hard earned on.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am
