And where is there anything new in the brief mention of Wiggins, amongst footballers, cricket players, tennis players etc...
Bradley Wiggins made the most of therapeutic use exemptions, but — he claims — within the letter of the law. He did so with the knowledge of the governing body, whose resident doctor signed off the medication, as well as an independent specialist.

    So thats ok then.

the point the article was making is that these grey areas are cheating. i.e. the author believes that Wiggins is a cheat and that cheating in this cynical way risks undermining many sports.

Theres a bloke over the road, he hasnt worked in years, he's got a doctor note that says he cant. And he loves it. He makes no bones of the fact he uses the system to get tens of thousands of pounds of benifits a year. Hes not cheating, its the system. He's not cheating those hardworking people who have less money than he does and who are obliged to pay for his use of the system. Its the system wot needs to change aint it.

Well yes it is but it doesnt make the idle skiving benfits scum any less of a cheat.

Cor... you’re right - that bloke is utter scum.
Although, personally, I’d invent him with a bit more “colour” and believability to avoid sounding like a right wing pillock of limited faculties..

I just assumed Vino was writing that on his phone standing on the other side of the road, opposite his own house.

there we go then, you can cheat and not break the rules.

I don’t get references to grey areas in sport. Sport is governed by an arbitrary set of rules created by a governing body (and possible overlap with rules of other bodies such as anti-doping) and you are either within the rules or you aren’t. In the Wiggins case, if his TUE was legitimate then he was acting within the rules and if he / someone else made false claims to obtain the TUE then it broke the rules. At present, no-one has said that Wiggins / Sky broke the rules at that time. Even the MPs said he didn’t break the rules but have muddied the waters talking about ethics. The rules of a sport should take into account any ethical issues the sport wants to address.

And if in doubt clear it with the governing body. Which is what Wiggins did.

So you're saying the bloke across the road really can't work?

Because if he can work, and lied to the doctor in order to get a note, then that would be against the rules.

Apparently not if you get a doctor to say so. Cause the rules allow for that.

Pretty sure for a doctor to lie about something like that would be an offence so I wouldn't say that's within the rules, if the doctor isn't lying its within the rules. Which is it?

And you still need an assessment, carried out by a company on behalf of the government, not just a doctor's note.

Well you could try and dupe the assessors by claiming to be more broken than you really are.

But of course that is also against the rules...

Doctors never lie of course. And of course they have so many drugs to chose from who are we to know if chosing a product that has sub optimal outcomes compared to alternatives was the wrong thing.

Well exactly, but it hasn't stopped numerous people with no access to Wiggins medical records from determining that he didn't need the medication and was only prescribed it to gain an advantage. You appear to have seen the light ;)

It's quite amusing how little consequence it has when a universally respected rival rider comes to SKY's defense and calls all of this a witch hunt. Hardly acknowledged. Back to beating the same drum.

It has no consequence or relevance at all to the wiggins tue debacle or the jiffy bag. I think most people opn here think that Froome has messed something up, he’ll get a ban, and then crack on.

FWIW Skys other doctors were unhappy enough about the situation that they changed passwords amongst other things to stop any more abuse (percieved, potential or otherwise) Its quite amusing how those facts are ignored.

It was only going to have any impact this side of the channel. Someone like Tom Boonen isn't going to take lessons in cycling from some MPs who think the Tour de France is a Classic.

I doubt the MPs nor most of the others who've been pushing the anti-Sky message know who Boonen is anyway.

If the Mail did then there would no doubt be mentions that they were being supported by someone with a liking for cocaine and teenage girls.
