    My dad kept hens on his allotment when I was a kid. When I was clearing my dad and mums house after they had passed away I found his notebooks detailing the eggs he sold and cost of food. In 1951 he sold his eggs to neighbors and relations for 6 shillings a dozen. A quick google says that is over £10 in today's money! I used to wonder why he spent so much time with his hens. I know now.
