Just got a (very) unique italian custom built road bike

  • The frame looks big.
It does have a weird geometry. Seat tube 66cm, top tube 59cm.
The seat height - handlebars height difference is 9cm.
You cannot fit a rider taller than 195cm on this - top tube is the restriction. I am 188 and I use a 12cm stem. 195 rider will rise the seatpost by, say, 1.5cm, might be 2cm if he is rather long-legged. But that will make no difference to the general look which, I admit, is an odd one.
By and large, the bike fits me well. why is the geometry like this? I can only guess. I assume the rider for whom it was designed did not like to have a huge height drop between his handlebars and seatpost.

    Starting to look cool. Hat.

If you could fit a negative stem and some more compact bars on there it would rock even more.

    Tape looks Euro cool.

Thank you for the advice. I do feel like getting a negative stem.
As for the handlebars, I need to ride another 300-500kms on these ones to decide whether I want to try compact

    PLeasure to help any time

Re stems - I use the -17 degree version of these: cheap, well made, stiff, light and look good. Maybe worth a go?

Some deep rim carbons will also look utterly lovely with tan wall tyres.

I ride on public roads in the Eastern Europe. I will not do so unless I want to commit suicide

    Why?

I ride on public roads and so does everyone else.

    Buy the wheels.

Will you at least buy the stem?

  • Because cycling in post Soviet countries is different from the one you are used to
Buying the stem leads to changing to compact handlebars since the drop on these ones is too deep to lower it even more.
Wheels are definitely out of question unless someone gifts me a wheelset:)

    Britain. It’s not that great.

  • Ha-ha!
There are no cycle paths here at all. And the existance of road surface is not to be taken for granted.
Go to google images and search "roads in ukraine"
Are u still sure that UK is that bad? :)
  • We are still alive.
