Where’s the fun in that?

When you can't afford any more parts!
I wouldn't let that stop you
Sell things you dont need, kids, family member, a kidney...
I'm debating new stem spacers on the bike I've not even built yet, its an upgrade they are shiny alloy not painted that means their lighter which is weight saving
Save money and weight and slam the stem instead!0 -
That's why I had my first custom built. I could have got a factory spec bike a bit cheaper, but then the cost and hassle of replacing the bits I was less than happy with and disposing of them.
It always makes me smile when I read reviews of £3k bikes suggesting that new owners should immediately replace the wheels, tyres, saddle etc. If I spent that much on a bike I'd want it to be perfect out of the box.
I also think upgrade is a bit of a euphemism. People don't like to admit they are just replacing perfectly functional things on a new bike, and in an attempt to justify their profligate spending claim it's lighter, more responsive, less flexy etc. Very occasionally somebody will admit it was just to improve the appearance of the bike.
The only changes i've ever made that properly improved a bike were the aforementioned 5800 calipers, Power saddle and grippier tyres.0 -
