Preparation for 50 mile Time Trial

Any tips on preparing for it. I'm in the middle of a training block with three interval (strength & high cadence) sessions per week plus sprints (15+hours a week). I just found out today that that i to do a 50 mile TT on the 10th. Should I attempt to taper? Any pacing strategies? I don't have any tt's under my belt and I've only been riding a bike for less than 2 years. I plan on using clip on aero bars as well.

Just have an easy week with a couple of sessions where you do a couple of short efforts at race pace.

I’ve found, for me, it’s not that important on a 50, just bimble about with a couple of efforts getting HR/ Power to race pace.

Oh, and do all your riding between now and then on the clip on bars.

  • Thanks again. I just put on the aero bars today. Everyone seems to be a little afraid and i have good base (compared to my competitetors) so who know i may actually place.

    How did it go?
  • Horribly wrong. I cracked 35 miles in. My seatpost slipped by a cm at some point and i didnt realise it. My hamstrings basically locked up and i could harldy turn the pedals over. That coupled with 24+ mph headwinds destroyed me. I have a 30 mile TT in one week and the wind forecast looks to be another horrible day. Im honestly not looking forward to it as it seems that i suffer more than others in headwinds.

Resolve that seat post issue. That's a bummer. Everyone suffers in headwinds but if you suffer more it is because you are pushing harder than you can sustain.
