    Afternoon folks,
Day of minor pottering has been had, not done most of what I intended but got other stuff done.
That’s tough news Oxo, hope she gets back on track soon. Parenting certainly is hard at times.
No riding for me today, not even pretending.

So you're hanging around a bunch of burly tradesmen, dressed in lycra and hoping for a quick plastering?

Seems like a clear summation. 'Plastering' could mean all sorts of things.

Does your OH know you call her an inbred?

Luckily her Dad was from far away and in so doing, improved her gene's no end.

    Sungod, what’s the new jacket?

it's the castelli 'alpha ros', wore a baselayer under it, overheated on the hills and had to unzip, first impression is good, the sleeves are long enough allowing gloves to overlap at the wrist, good high neck, not baggy, only quibble would be the pockets are a bit tight

had the first mince pie of the season at the gail's in swain's lane, hurrah!

That’s good news, I started a thread yesterday asking if anyone had bought / worn the ros,
I don’t suppose it was raining on your ride, I wanted to know how waterproof they are...

Not very. I had an Alpha jacket but before you go out and buy one, maybe consider the Espresso. I find that it is a far superior jacket.
I found the Alpha a bit tight on the arms and the shoulders. I also found that it didn't breath very well.
My Espresso is a little looser in the arms, possesses slightly better water proofing but not a lot. It has the storm cuffs and slightly better collar. It also breathes better.
Mainly, it is far more wind proof and seen as it's pretty windy your way with some bitter easterlies, that wind proofing is priceless. Because it is a bit roomier, you can get more layers under it in the really cold weather.

Laaazy day. Except for the 9 hours spinning the 53-11 as cadence training. I'll be putting the 60-9 single speed back on tomorrow. Weather gruesome, pretty much as I imagine a belter of a summers day is up Pinno's way, but I got the dog done before it went to shyte. Done times-tables tennis, reading, story writing and banana loaf with the nipper. Paddington 2 tomorrow, plus turning 3 kg of beef and pork mince into ragu for the freezer. Mrs H3 bought pre-diced onions. We have had an argument as a result. Fcuking pre-diced onions.
Had a black pudding, egg, mozzarella and sriracha toastie for lunch.

You are talking about the jacket rather than the Jersey aren't you?!

Pinno, it is called the castelli alpha ros jacket, I was told yesterday when that is the alpha renamed, I was hoping for a wind and waterproof jacket, were one base layer obviously depending on outside temperature thick / thin base layer would be sufficient

Friggin cold with showers and a stiff North Easterly.
Glad I went out yesterday. It was the same as the above but without the showers.

My bike is even filthier than it was in the last pic. Might clean it tonight if I can muster up a tiny bit of energy.

I know. I saw the link and it has been mentioned in Bender's Roubaix thread. So, given that is is a slightly re-badged Alpha, then I would still opt for the Espresso but if you want waterproof, check his thread out.

    viewtopic.php?f=40013&t=13039887&hilit=waterproof+jacket

    ..and do a search.

Pre-diced onions. It's not even food. Rancid lumps of reeking soggy shyte. I finely diced an onion for her. Showed her the difference.
    Baked camembert for tea.

I know I live in London, where it's never cold, but the alpha jersey, with a ls merino base, and an extra ss merino base if cold is all I ever need. I have a Mortirolo but that's for sub zero.

I hope it meets your expectations. It's my goto jacket on cool days, adjusted via different baselayers.
I cannot praise it enough and it easily competes with Castelli and the like. The Espresso jacket is the dog's danglies for cold weather.
I now have the DHB Aeron softshell, the Roubaix windslam tights and a DHB merino base layer.
Such food value for money. I'll be buying more DHB stuff in the future.
Yes, let me know how you get on with it. Here's hoping I haven't led you to something that doesn't work for you.

Now time to get myself a snood for my neck.

    Do I go for:

Methinks i'll copy paste those links on the BTR thread.

fabric is silky, it's warm and not too bulky to fit under the collar for a good seal
