Colnago C60 questions

Few questions on the C60, wonder if anyone can help.

1) I have a Dura Ace 9000 bottom bracket and chainset on another bike I'd like to use, can I just get an Italian bottom bracket and use the same chainset? I'm assuming the axle is the same length.

2) What tyre width can the C60 take? 25mm?

3) Steerer tube and seatpost sizes? Does it come with headset and seatpost?

4) And where would be a good place to get one?

Can't help you personally, but if I were buying a C60 (including Spost) it would be from Mike @ Meastro and my questions would be put to him. If he doesn't know, then no one will. :D

    1) It's BB86. The threaded cups that go in (probably already fitted in when you buy them) are just metal pieces which complete the bike's part of the deal to it's ready to accept BB86, from there on, you're just buying BB86 bottom bracket of choice. Some people will put them in dry, some with the specified loctite compound, and others with Morgan Aquaproof Paste because a guy on WeightWeenies Forum seemed to find it worked really well on his C60 and others seemed to agree.

    2) Haven't heard of anyone running 28s, but plenty run 25mm

    3) 31.6mm for Seatpost, I don't think it comes with one, but it's nice to get the matching one for the paintjob. Maestro UK used to chuck in the seatpost with the C59, I don't know if they still do. Yes, it comes with headset.

    4) Last week Merlin would have been good, they were running an extra 10% off any C60 frame for a few weeks, seems to have finished now. You could shout them and ask for a better price and say this. Maestro UK might be worth a shout too.

(i'd also go look at the Weight Weenies Forum a bit, through the introduce yourself forum where people post their bikes, you'll be able to scroll through and find plenty of C60 build threads with chat going back and forth on all sorts of build questions)

Mike at Maestro gives great advice and included the seatpost when I got my C60 - apparently the official distributors dont. Headset seems to be standard. 25s fit no problem as so do 28

I doubt there's any particularly great deals on them online, but I haven't looked recently. if there aren't big discounts gte yourself to your local dealer. my local dealer in east Yorkshire (vive le velo) were very good, as always, and would answer any questions if I'd had them.

I didn't end up getting one. there may be a little info on the below thread, but not much.

Check out NNK racing in Athens. Talk to Nestor
Frame comes with BB screw in sleeves already fitted to accept BB86 cups of your choice.
    I run 25mm G+ on Boras. Won't take 28mm
    Headset comes fitted.
Seat post not included in this country unless you buy from Maestro. They are nearly £200.00 extra.

I thought it won't take 28s, some people have tried and got them working but only on certain rims and even then with barely any clearance under the fork. Someone above said it would take 28s, OP, you should only assume 25s.

Save your money and buy a nos or good second hand C59. I have a C60 and a C59 both in tradition geometry and prefer the C59. Threaded bottom bracket too!

I tend to agree on this looking for a C59 thing, certainly in that it looks better. A fair few people who have owned both end up with the same opinion as you. I'm sure the C60 is a great bike though, and those who have not owned a C59 will still be happy as larry.

It's worth the OP noting that only the very last C59's with the C60 fork can comfortably run most 25mm tyres though, so if you've bought into the "big bouncy tyres thing" purchase carefully to make sure you can even run 25mm otherwise you'll be on 23mm.

Same here. I had the option of a C60 or a discounted C59, and I went for the latter. Preferred the look of the C59, much preferred the threaded B.B., and the C59 was in stock in Nero, just what I wanted! Three years later and no regrets.

Personally, I dont particularly like the colour matched C60 seat posts, just don’t look right to my eye. Seat posts should be black or plain carbon, IMO.

    PS running 25mm G+ too. Don’t think I’d get 28mm in.

Give Super Domestique in London a try too, they were offering new C60, post and bars with Super Record groupset, Shamal Ultra wheels, and a choice of Fizik or Deda finishing kit for £6700:

£395? The point of this post is - Buyer beware bargains. Especially with dodgy paint jobs.

It's not quite the saving they advertise, but a quick look shows you are saving about £550 if you shopped around for the best prices:

    Frame rrp £4195
    Post £180
    Bars £250
    Super Record £1600
    Tyres £100
    Saddle £90
    Stem £80

    Total £7245

Plus they'll build it, fit you and give you some foot beds.

Just to add to this, I have both and to be honest its hard to tell the different between the two but I prefer the 60 for some reason. I use them for different purposes but they are both fantastic though.

Mine will not take 28mm tyres.

If you get one - go to Mike at Maestro. He will get you exactly what you want for the very best price.

I dunno, it seemed to me nobody would pay that for the frame, £3300 they were at Merlin the other day, and I'd be hunting for better than that. The Super Record group could be got cheaper for sure, and people normally compromise down on the cassette which is pointlessly expensive (in fact, better not having one, going for a Shimano one and wheelset with a Shimano Freehub). Bars might not suit someone anyway, and there's plenty of high end bars costing less.

To be fair some people do just wanna buy and money isn't an issue, I'd be completely confident in getting it for significantly less than their deal if I set about it. Particularly with sales coming up on all sorts.

Fitting would be irrelevant to me, I'd transfer my fit no problem, footbeds I wouldn't need, and building it isn't worth that much really, nothing if you build it yourself of course.

Why not start a thread or blog on it, put loads of photos of details with comparison to a photos of a real one where possible, document all the differences, I'd do that.

Then, I'd take a dremel to it and photograph all that as i dissect it, study it from the inside, people would find it interesting, particularly as it's quite iconic.

It would take hours and hours to sort it out and publish it all, but it would be a nice project, I'd definitely do it.
  • ^^ slightly more extreme than I had in mind. Maybe a new non colnago paint job

Sorry to sidetrack the thread OP

I built a C60 nearly two years ago. Seatpost is normally extra, but threaded BB inserts and headset bearings were already fitted. I bought mine through Cicli Matteo in Italy and saved over £1200 on UK prices. Admittedly the exchange rate helped at 1.4 Euros to the pound at that time, but have just taken a peek and they are still significantly cheaper than UK list price. They are no different to buying through a UK shop/ supplier - they took my order, delivered it all well packed and everything was very smoothly handled.

    Hope this helps.

It appears if you mean this website (???) there are a few to be had at 2699 euros (their website doesn't translate bang on, so the button goes green when available but still says not available, but will add to cart)

If that's the website of who you bought yours from that's potentially a very very good price (£2400 + shipping)

I've never heard of them myself but thought it was interesting enough to do a quick search...

Yes, sorry, misspelled the shop/ website.

They are a genuine Colnago dealership, I checked it all out including a Google street view of the shop before placing an order. I emailed a few questions which were responded to promptly in excellent English. You can select your country and language and even your currency on the website. Great deals on Colnagos if you ask me...

The ones in the photos look genuine, they are certainly not based on the HQR01 mould that many/all the fakes on DHGate use.
