Apparently new versions of the above light are coming out shortly. Would explain why several places are doing the fly 12 for £180.

Might go cheaper still once the versions hit the stores.

I wasn't aware there was such a thing. Only just ordered the fly12 - is there an aldi clone of that ?

They recently had a rear camera/ light similar to the fly6. Think it was about £40.

I haven't heard of them doing any equivalent of the fly12 though.
  • I hope the new Fly12 isn't too good or I'll have buyer's remorse for buying the old model.

A friend has the Aldi Fly6 clone. Here's some footage...

Well my FLY12 (Orginal) arrived earlier in the week and I quickly got to try it out.....a frustrating experience:-

    - The app is very hit and miss - I had to do a bluetooth reset to get to connect

-When connecting it disables your current wifi - so you phone is barking that you have no internet connection

-I found the array of flashing lights and beeps very confusing

    - If using the supplied bracket - you have to tighten it quite a lot so it doesn't move on the bike - meaning that its quite a faff to get the light on and off

-The alarm feature again doesn't sync with the app - it was showing disarmed when i went out, yet I moved it and off the alarm sounded ! (much to the amusement of my next door neighbour) - also the alarm sound goes through the phone - but not the camera (a flicking light isn't going deter anyone). I also unsure that if you enable internet on you phone again - whether the alarm would work.

    - First ride done - I reviewed the footage on the phone - once after that it wouldn't work.

-Recordings ok on PC - but sound so poor (it wouldn't pick up your own voice for example) - also in the dark it was picking up less than 50% of license plates on parked cars

    - Also my records were hindered by my brake cables ! - given the wide angle view of the lens this may be quite difficult to solve

Now some of that could be down my inexperience with the light - and cameras in general (i haven't owned one before) - and a lot of it the flaky communication between app and phone. It certainly isn't plug and play in any sense - that said it does have massive battery life - and reading other camera reviews it seems they all have downsides.

Let you know how it progresses !
  • Hmm, not filling me with confidence.

Perhaps I should cancel order, it hasn't shipped yet. :/
  • Soundwise they've all had issues, each of the ones I tried. Constant roar, hiss, buzz etc. With the old GoPro and GoPro clones that was because of the case. This won't help, but the sound on the new Go Pro is excellent. Indeed, it's quite distracting as when I had a cold a few weeks back the sound of me sniffing was quite offputting.

Yeah from my experience the latest gopro's (hero 5) have significantly improved sound quality.

Shame gopro don't have a similar product to the fly6.

You can get them from a few places @ £180 now. no need to wait for sports pursuits.

Im sure some of my problems with it are down to me - and the limited amount of time I had with it last night. The thing that bothers me most is the time it takes to switch between bikes - you might just end up not bothering.

Just get another mount, depends what you want but these are fine:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Love2pedalUK%C ... mount&th=1

Short one holds it above bar, long one gets it further forward.

Skip the allen key, just use the thumb screw that I assume came with the Cycliq

Cheers for the heads up - will order when I get paid !

The thumb screw is problem though - to get it to stay put I have to tighten it quite a lot - which means its a bit of pain to remove.

That's not uncommon. With the old camera I had to make sure I used a pliers to tighten it enough, which is a pain. For whatever reason the new GoPro sits happily in there, perhaps the tabs are a bit thicker. That's the other thing with the non Cycliq cams, you eject the camera from its case and take it away rather than the whole unit.

No I haven't - the official due is £50 - which is a fair wedge of cash.

Sore there are clone duo mounts - but with the weight of the light some have reported image bounce - or worse camera bounce
  • DC rainmaker's review of the new Fly12 has appalling stabilisation compounded by a poor mount (as I recall) he thinks the stabilization wasn't active (despite being ticked).

The best mounts do appear to be those K-Edge ones, sadly.

There should be a Superstar one coming. You should be able to add a GoPro adaptor underneath an existing Superstar Garmin out front mount.

Much better tonight- finally getting to grips with it. Main thing I learnt was not to press the button until you are sure its done its stuff...it bit like repeatedly clicking you're mouse on a slow computer- theres a lag and it appears to beep for no reason - but its catching up with itself.

I focused the light more ahead than down - and taped the brake cables out of the way (well mostly) got some good footage - still not picking up number plates though !

****Boring alert but heres a vid******

Got my fly12 and duo mount yesterday. Seems simple enough. Exactly what I want - you can flick through "rough" footage in the app for the bit you want, then download and save that in 1080p. Image seems fine - nice and clear, number plates visible even in the dark. I'm not really interested in re-watching myself plough up and down the same sections of road day after day, the camera is there as insurance. Hopefully it will serve that purpose!

Has anybody actually brought the fly 12 CE ? - it seems permanently out of stock in the uk, so its either selling like hot cakes or isn't yet available for some reason....

Not sure if you got it or not, I am just awaiting for amazon to get stock of it and will give a try. Bored with hero6 flaws also it is heavy on helmet so i'll give a try for cycliq...

Is there any alternative option for a mount for 520 and the fly 12CE? K-edge website advise that they mounts won't be strong enough for holdin both..
  • Cycliq do a duo mount - https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/11/cyc ... mount.html

Can't vouch for whether it's any good or not, not got as far as parting with my money yet

Reviews\feedback of that mount are generally positive. I think the problem comes when people buy the clones. But £50 for a mount - jesus what is the world coming to.

FWIW - I don't think either the fly12 or fly12 CE make a good helmet cam. But the field of vision is so large - it doesn't need to be on a helmet.

I finally caved and got one of the old Fly12s for £135.

So far so good as after initial setup I can just completely ignore the **** mobile app.

Does anybody know of a duo mount that works with the Fly12 that isn't their own expensive one? The Wiggle Lifeline one looked good for £22 but reviews suggest the bolts are made of cheese.

I am still using the bar mount. The problem from what I read with the cheaper mounts is that they aren't as stiff as the k-edge ones so you get camera bounce.

Even K-edge wont recommend their own mounts for Fly12..

I got a couple of these a while ago for the original Fly12 and my Garmin Edge 1000. Suits me perfectly. They are from Oz so take a little while but I see they are cheaper now.

That looks perfect for £13! I guess it holds the Fly12 out far enough from the head tube?

I'm using the stock Cycliq bar mount on my commuter bike but I'd like duo garmin/cam mount for my road bike as I tend to commute on that on nicer days over Summer.
