  • We would always recommend downloading the video to your device before starting your ride, in preference to streaming over an iffy WiFi connection.
  • It's a shame that there isn't a better way of aligning the gradients correctly to the climbs, on the ones I've tried that are 'User' sent in video's I presume Fulgaz have used the data sent with the vid i.e. the garmin fit file, spoils it a tad when the road goes downhill but you're still climbing, quiet noticeable on the Tour de yorkshire cote de lofthouse ride. I'm guessing that Fulgaz's own videos are aligned better

If you experience any gradient anomalies please post details to the Fulgaz Riders Facebook group. A comment like "At distance X in the ride, the gradient should be 0% - e.g. on a summit or in a dip - but is actually showing as Y%" would be perfect.

We can sometimes fix this but we can be limited by the GPS elevation trace which in our experience isn't so reliably accurate as the GPS lat/lon trace. Barometric altimeters can go a bit iffy with changeable weather for example.

Gradients generally have improved since the 2.4.2 release of the App.
  • Thank you for the replies.

My ave power was reported as 177w - as a novice to this and my first outing I’ve no idea if this important here for my ‘problem’. I do know that I was feeling kinda sweaty at the end. My ave HR was 166bpm (age 44) but my ave speed was only recorded as 13.2kph.

And this was an ‘easy’ ride.

If my WiFi can be the cause of this first ride anolmaly then that sounds great as an explanation- I’ll download the next one and give it another go - hopefully tonight and recheck settings. Thanks everyone.

On Fulgaz wattage can be very ride dependent, ie up Ventoux the other day I was over 210w for the hour @ 6mph, but on a flatter route it averages at 150w @ 18mph(ish) for me

Something to add as it might help others.

Kit: Stages PM, Wahoo BOLT, iphone, Tacx Flow Smart.

I already had the Flow paired to my Wahoo and when trying FG for the first time it would not alter the resistance on my Flow as the gradient went up/down. Eventually I "forgot" the Flow from my Wahoo and everything felt ok on the test video. Now obviously the Flow and Stages power will differ, it would be great to be able to record from the Stages on FG but for now I will just record the ride on my Wahoo as well in case of any crashes.

Looking forward to trying a few climbs tonight, hopefully everything will work as planned.
  • That's bad and good news! Well done on the latter! :D

The Bwlch loop is up. All three ascents, and, quite rightly, the rider chose typically Welsh weather to do it.

Sorry about how late I'm bringing this up, I don't read this thread often, but is this Bwlch y Groes by any chance? I've got this crazy idea of somehow tackling the real thing this year, so a virtual version good be decent prep.

must admit mentally I hate 'real' rides where you have to descend a big hill just to climb back up it again.

  • I don't think many people do that ride in the real world. There's no need really. If you ascend from the Afan Valley it's better to then ascend the Rhigos, down to Aberdare and over Maerdy, then back over Penrhys and the Bwlch again. Some very tidy climbing in a very short distance. I may do a recording if I can figure out the extra power to the Session 5 thing.

I did it, but looking down from the top and making the decision to go down, wasn’t the easiest I’ve ever made :D

I've done that route a few times......usually comes up as death march on strava!

Well, I’m back in the fulgaz gang!
I’ve sold the Bkool and bought an elite direto last month.

Works great via BT and I’m mirroring the iPad onto a TV with a third gen Apple TV box. Had some connection issues with that this week so I’ve got a lightening hdmi adapter to try.

I’ve also had some very good communication with Mike, the owner of fulgaz who kindly gave me another free trial to use and some helpful set up advice.

I’ve had a few rides and the “ ample views “ whilst riding along the Australian beach definitely cheered me up this week!
So much so that I’ve bought a 12 month subscription.
Great value at £52 for the year.

I may have to, as prep for the Marmotte, but I think I'll still do something 'loopy' instead.

The only thing that's a negative has been having to use the iPad as a mirror. Now I can use the iPad to watch a movie/have a concert on AND still have the scenery.

I have the same Direto/iPad setup but don't get any auto resistance on the climbs. Does that work with Fulgaz or is it just geared resistance?

I get resistance via fulgaz, I always use the test ride to set it up before starting on my planned ride. Very occasionally I’ve had to come out of the app and turn on/off Bluetooth but that gets it going.

I don't yet own an Apple TV but intend to as driver for Zwift, Fulgaz (once launched) and anything else that gets ported to tvOS down the line...

I've not yet used Fulgaz but have watched some of the videos [ http://www.fulgaz.com/hd-cycling-videos/ ]while on the trainer just for something to look at. What I've found is that I'm willing Mike to pedal harder (usually by pedalling harder myself!) in order to try to catch someone who's up the road. This is obviously pointless as it doesn't work that way...

The lovely settings (some of them familiar) and realistic gradients is very appealing, but the inability (motivation) to hang on someone's wheel or to catch up with someone is a negative, and might in time end up being a showstopper for an ongoing subscription.

Any views on this? Does the Challenge mode help with this aspect, or not really?
