Dunno whats wrong with the selection at British Cycling but there are more talented and established TTists than Tao.
Doull, Dibben, Kennaugh, Thomas, anybody would beat Tao.
    And where's Dowsett?
Hell, even Ed Clancy will be better than Tao.

Behave. He's been a consistently good TT rider since he was a junior.

He's not going to win, but it's a good experience for him and he's definitely the best suited of the available riders for the course.

TGH has been GB U23 Nat TT Champ runner up, and 9th in the UEC European U23 TT Champs

And Clancy's palmares in championship TTs is...?

I think someone is confusing a TT with the pursuit / team pursuit (or at least working on the assumption that track pursuit specialist = TT specialist).

They also missed Scott Davies off their list which is unforgivable

Does Tom Pidcock deserve his own thread yet? It seems inevitable - so shouldn't we just get on with it now?

Yep, he should stop wasting his time winning World, European and National titles. If he's not careful he could end up like that Vos woman, she wasted her time in cyclocross when she could have made it big on the road.

Pretty sure that would be FAR more difficult in mens cycling owing to the far greater strength in depth.

Anyway, I'm sure he will see sense.

Some young uk riders doing well in Italy here 11 minutes in. One is the son of a former member of this forum - went by the name Bloocow - don't think he's posted since it went from Cycling Plus to Bikeradar.
[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]
  • As for Tom Pidcock - I'd keep him doing cross if only because it might stop BC turning him into a pursuiter.

Pidcock is fabulous. He's crushing the world junior cx scene. and also the UK junior scene. Love him.

Dowsett won't be any good cos it has a big fuckoff climb at the end of it.

None of those will have anywhere near as good a chance as Froome - what's the point? Tao gets the experience and to scope the course for Froome.

Not necessarily how I'd do it but I see the logic.

    The Course Profile:
    profile-itt-men.jpg
Before tackling the punchy closing climb up Fløyen the route of the ITT runs on rolling roads. Too modest to call them proper climbs, yet the stretches go up at gradients of 3 to 4%, so the course is pretty toilsome. Furthermore, the ITT takes in around 1.2 kilometre of pavé.

    Favourites World Championships ITT
*** Tom Dumoulin, Rohan Dennis, Primoz Roglic
** Chris Froome, Michal Kwiatkowski, Stefan Küng, Geraint THomas
    * Maciej Bodnar, Vasil Kiryienka, Tony Martin, Bob Jungels, Wilco Kelderman

---Think Kwiato isnt doing the TT. I'd also put Contaviejo in this list. :P

As we can see, it will favour big powerful guys more than okayish climbers with little to no TT pedigree.(Unless we consider 9th in U23 European Championships as huge pedigree  ).
We often forget that the World Championships are special events and GB has the privilege of having a full quota of riders.
Also, Chris Froome just came off an insane peak and you never know how he'll perform where the margin between the Top 10 contenders will be minute.

To use an ITT WC quota to provide experience to a guy like Tao IMO is ludicrous. We have to remember that World Championships TT courses will mostly be pan flat courses in the future.
Doull, Dibben, Kennaugh, Thomas, Dowsett all can perform better than Tao on this course in peak condition.(GT obviously isn't there right now).

From what I've read, Poland has 2 spots (Bialoblocki is in now also it seems with Bodnar), so if Kwiatkowski is not starting its because he will focus 100% on the Road Race besides the TTT. Too bad as he would have had a serious chance of a medal on this course, but ofcourse so will he in the Road Race.
Happy to be proven wrong. :)

He just put a photo of him on his TT bike on instagram, but maybe that is for the TTT not TT.

    Womens TTT result
    1 Team Sunweb 55:41.63
    2 Boels Dolmans +12.43
    3 Cervelo Bigla Pro +28.03
  • How did Sunweb manage that then?
Boels had 15 seconds and a full team at the top of the climb.
    Perfect timing.

Sunweb men's team to double up this afternoon, a distinct possibility, if not probability.

Dutch eurosport heard Boels might have had a mechanical on the last climb, but how that translated to losing near enough 30 seconds on the downhill segment I dont know, we didnt see that happen on the coverage, or how they shelled their last two riders either. Sunweb did seem alot quicker on that run in
  • Decent looking Movistar team
  • No tri spokes for Sky - is that because of the one that disintegrated?
