Those two stages have really shaken up the top of the table. Someone critisized Contador a few days back for "racing for 13th place" but he's really livening things up. This time last week he was sitting in 23rd place.

My guess is that it will turn out to be someone with special needs. The question is why is he that side of the barriers?
Now confirmed that it was someone with Downs Syndrome. The body shape and the running gait was a clue.

Makes a bit more sense now. Perhaps he saw other fans giving riders pushes and got confused/excited, you can't imagine there being any malice in it. Either way it's a bit of a relief that it's not something more sinister like a pissed-up idiot or worse, and that there were no serious consequences.
As a dad of a young man with DS it still wouldn't be particularly excusable, though my son can get quite excitable from time to time and it is plausible that it was just a clumsy attempt at a push up the hill by him.

Shame though as it goes to reinforcing some of the stereotypes of people with DS.

It is a shame but hopefully people can see it for what it is and not make judgements based on it.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

Good stage today. Shame the steward/police guy does the right thing and pushes a prat around and it ended up like that. Hey ho.

All very watchable, enjoying this year's race.

Yes I don't have a problem with the Spanish police being heavy handed either.

No doubt the spectators have been warned ahead of the race and overall they've been very well behaved. Something needed to be done because as we've seen at the Tour, admittedly with bigger crowds, the spectators are starting to impact on the racing and having fans encroaching where race vehicles and riders need space is dangerous.

What it was, was a spectator deliberately pushing a rider off. Fortunately he doesn't appear to have been too badly hurt.

Not entirely convinced that that is accurate. It was a spectator pushing a rider off. Whether they were deliberately trying to push him off or not I think is impossible to judge from the TV. So unless there are spanish newspaper reports with comments from the man involved or his family I'd not necessarily judge.

Ian Stannard is much bigger than I expected - he could play rugby

Isn't everyone, looking from down there?

He is quite big, true. Although, when i saw him in Roubaix a couple of years ago, he did not, particularly, stand out next to Boonen and Hayman

This video is doing the rounds a bit

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CylFWy- ... e&t=31m50s

Apparently it "shows" Froome using a motor at the end of the stage. Although to me it looks like he is just riding downhill in the finish area.

and with someone pushing him . if he did have a motor why would he still have it on after the finish and after he had come to a stop by his teammate?

Having personally walked along that stretch of road on the day, it's downhill. The finish was at the top of small hill.
