Training study for £500!

A friend of mine is running a research study and needs a final few participants, so I said that I would share on here. The following link provides a good overview - https://www.facebook.com/wyndymillabikes/photos/a.152293484798873.36112.110810008947221/1697273346967538/?type=3&theater
In short, some of the benefits of participation will be -
- a better understanding of how to incorporate strength training into an endurance cyclist's training plan
- assessment of your aerobic profile (thresholds and VO2max)
- a Polar HR watch
- £500 participation fee
- body composition assessment
- periodised and monitored training
- an opportunity to ask any of those burning sport science questions...

Burning sport science questions like "WTF has strength training got to do with endurance cycling"0 -

Me thinks many people haven't read anything relevant in 10 years time. If you don't want a good sprint or to be a sprinter you can skip "leg day".
Here's one of your Tour heros here doing some, gasp, running and pullups, pushups, weighted squats, lunges, literal mountain climbers. How many of you can do a clapping pushup or even 5 pullups?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnAX-xcjytE
If you want to sprint at well above the 1kw range you do need some in and off season "leg day" work, core work, and upper body work. You need some fast twitch to accelerate from 25 or 27mph to 35mph+ very quickly. And a limp noodle upper ain't going to help put that down. Load up that press sled or squat rack, it should take you a minute to load enough 45lb plates.
I cheated, I arrived at the "sprint" power in a backwards kind of way. I did the weights in the gym for years but not much cardio, I LOVED leg day as well. So once I added some endurance base for a year and kept some weights, I've already a workable sprint.
Endurance wise I'm between a 5 and a 4 on the chart. Very, well, normal and plain and slow. Sprint wise I've put out 1300w, meter indicated. I'd love to hit 1500w. But that's only after 30 miles, not some massive 120 mile race. Those guys are beasts to race to get there, then put that down.0 -
Cool story!0

Sorry for the delay; had to get a response from my friend. He says that there is plenty of good quality evidence to support lower-body strength work in an endurance cyclist's programme and recommended reading the below articles, if you have any spare time from just trying to tear others down.... He said he would be happy to explain some of the longer words for you too.

Still not sure who's paying who?0

Sorry for any confusion; as a participant, you would receive £500 at the end of the research.0

Love the assertion that because I don't necessarily agree with your premise, that I must therefore need help with some 'long words'. Nice. Anyway, you're offering the same old links to the same old studies, by the look of it. Tell your 'friend' to have a look at some of the links below, and then maybe re-think.

The science hasn't changed since 2002 (or indeed longer) - and nobody is suggesting he uses them as citations...context maybe...0
