I had an operation on my right leg this morning at 11am. It was just to remove a couple of small cysts from the knee, but I cannot ride my bikes for two weeks to allow the skin the knit together, so, I'm watching Le Tour on ITV4, I'm on the settee and I've just realised my knees are going up and down as if I was pedalling.

It's going to be a long fortnight.:cry:

Only 2 weeks? I'm 7 weeks in to a layoff forced on me by injury. Am just about to get back to cycling, but to say it's been frustrating would be understating it ;)

  • In 2015 I timed my crash and enforced layoff so that I managed to catch both the Tour and the Vuelta! Didn't actually remember much of the Tour though, doped up to my eyeballs on morphine for the first week, and Tramadol for the next two. By the Vuelta, I was just about able to lever myself into a recumbent exercise bike, so I could pedal along (initially at zero resistance) with the pros :)

I had an investigative knee arthroscopy on the 31st May, was on the turbo 3 days later to get it moving, 2 days after that did 10mins very low effort, 2 days after that 20 mins and 2 days after that went out and rode 20 miles.

Need another op to fix the damage tho which is annoying that they couldnt do it first time round, and need an op on my hip so ill be buggered when i get the dates through for those...
My winter bike is exactly the same as my summer bike,,, but dirty...
  • 8 weeks into recovery from a shattered shoulder here.
No driving for 2 months, no exercise for 6mths, and no cycling for a year.
    Not a happy bunny.

Bike racks removed from the top of the car. Stable of bikes moved from the shed to the garage to be out of sight.
Like going thru a divorce from biking.. :'(
Hoping the surgeon will let me back to static workouts, but will depend on next xray results.

Most of my issues are caused by the nut connecting the saddle to the handlebars ;)

    Ouch, GWS!

Would an upright hybrid, perhaps with Modolo Dumbo bars to make your stance even more upright, enable you to turbo train without putting any strain on the shoulder?

  • Those handlebars look baffling, but just the ticket. Thanks for the recommendation !
Would bolt up to my commuter no problem.

I was initially going with a one-handed approach on the road bike with the bars rotated all the way back.
Hmm, may need to see what it all adds up to when I get the rest of the kit.
