Got a Garmin Edge 1000 now and I like it more in fact. It paired with my phone without having to do a factory reset not that I need it paired to my phone as I can upload via an old fashioned cable which is the way I like doing it.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

Yes, I'd like something more if it worked too!0

From what I can tell, you'll be fine as long as it's not a huawei
No worries - all went swimmingly.
Rode a 200k audax at the weekend with it too - pretty impressed!! Good piece of kit!0 -
Hi there
I’m looking for some information regarding the Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt, my son has just started cycling from Vancouver to Quebec City and whilst tracking him the device tripped out after about 10 minutes.
The message came back that he has completed his ride.
I’ve also noticed this problem whilst riding in the UK but not all the time.
What could be the problem so that I can inform him?0 -

An Edge 1000 and an Elemnt or Bolt are not in the same ballpark of device.
One can be had for $215 on sale, the other is over twice the cost.
I love not having to use a bunch of cables or the buttons on the device itself to configure it. A phone app is always much easier to use than buttons on a small cyclecomputer.
This isn't related to your post......but I fail to understand why people complain about a product like the Elemnt when they don't have the phone that it can pair with. It's in their info. You knew up front it is designed to use closely with a phone app.
Got a Bolt this week and first ride......very nice. Took all of 3 minutes to power on, pair, link to Strava acct, and modify the screen fields I wanted. Worked great on the ride too.
Can't wait to get my new crankset in mail to pair with my powermeter and try it out with the Bolt. Should be great for workout rides.
Amazing little piece of kit for $215. Performance Bike in the US had a July 4 sale of 15% off, was supposed to exclude Wahoo products and GPS. They did the discount anyway.0 -

yep... I can second this... got my bolt yesterday, and the setup was incredibly easy, just had to download the app and everything is very straightforward.
I also fail to understand why people cannot read: http://uk.wahoofitness.com/instructions/elemnt-bolt
To me it's very clear that you need a smartphone to set it up. If you don't have a smartphone, get one for £30. It's 2017, not the 90's0 -
I mean, this was the easiest electronic I've setup in the last 10 years of electronics I've purchased.
I turned it on, while it booted I downloaded the app, scanned the barcode, entered Strava password, then chose some screens on the app I want to see during a ride. Done.
Literally 3 to 5 minutes for all setup with a firmware update.
I went and held/tried a 520 before buying the Bolt. I could not justify $299 vs $215 on sale. Freaking Garmin you have to blow another $35 for an out front mount.
The text/call notifications worked great first ride out also. Easy to view the text/dismiss. I have zero need to be able to fiddle with responding to a text while riding. Yeah, good way to wreck a carbon race bike right there.0 -
Found this thread when searching for guidance to overcome pairing problems with a new phone (changed from Umi Touch to Xiaomi Redmi Note 4) and I was getting the same issue as the OP. Here's the problem I had and how I overcame it.
Elemnt app downloaded fine on the new android phone, pairing page opened fine on the Bolt showing the QR 'square' to scan, thought I had given permission to the app to access the camera, trying to pair though showed only a black screen on the phone with no camera opening automatically as it should, searched several threads on the web to no avail.
I overcame it by going into settings/installed apps on the phone and looking at the permissions and found the camera access was not active, changed that and ran the process again, this time it all worked just fine. I hope this helps someone else out.0
