I am trying to pair my element with my phone. I have downloaded the app I start it up and select pair device. On the element I select pair phone and I try to scan that qr code but nothing, letter nothing happens.

How can I get this to work.

could be some kind of software bug happening, I had to re-pair mine a couple of times this morning after 2 months with no issues.

but you could actually pair it i fall at the first hurdle. Maybe it is the phone, wahoo or me. I cant tell.

What is supposed to happen when you put your phone over the QR code on the wahoo screen. That is what I dont know because it has not happened to me.

and as of last night and again this morning my computor wont see the elment as an external drive to upload files. all in all this wahoo is turning out to be worse than a garmin. I seem to get all the dodgy kit.

To answer the 'what happens' question - the QR reader on the app registers the QR code and then the app can authorise the device and control it. It's very obvious something is happening.

Oh, and plugging it into the computer won't make a difference, it's not an external drive like Garmins are. When I plug mine in nothing happens either. It's all done via the app / bluetooth.

Can you see the QR reader on your phone when you try and pair? It's like a gunsight.

Huawei p10 plus is the phone and when I start the app and click pair device the screen comes up to scan the code on the element. When I place the phone over the wahoo nowt happens. there is no gunfight though just a box to get the 2d barcode in.

The PC did see the element as an external drive when I started using it it just stopped so no it has become useless.

Just looked on Wahoo website. Im afraid it says Huawei phones are not compatible with the companion app.

  • Mmmm I've got a hauwei P-9 lite and it works fine with my elemnt?

The only thing I can suggest is moving your phone in/out when lining up the barcode, as if zooming in and out. I seem to remember mine only reading the barcode from further away one time.

The app installed though and it said it was compatible. I did this before buying as they suggest. I cant install the app on my samsung tablet though no matter I thought I have a phone that will work.

I cant seen to contact wahoo customer service. they are closed. So how do I get a refund if I cant contact them. I will try tomorrow if not I will sell and them the bill for the difference.

rubbish piece of tech let down by crap bar mounts and software issues.

But it does actually state that Huawei phones are not compatible and ok, the stem mount isn't great, being secured with zipp ties but there's nothing wrong with the out front or the TT mount that come supplied with the elemnt. Not really fair to call it a rubbish piece of tech when you haven't been able to try it.

I know, it would be like trying to fit tubeless tyres to a non compatible rim and then moaning that it doesn't inflate and declaring that tubeless is therefore rubbish tech. The fact is that android phones are hit and miss when it comes to Bluetooth compatibility and that's with Garmin as well.

mine arrived today and no issues with a huawei p10, worth attempting a factory reset on the wahoo?

Or anything running Android older than version 4.3

Having to pair with a phone is a bit of a double edged sword. My phone is too old, though it works fine for everything else I want to do with it. If I have to budget for a new phone too just to use a Bolt, it's a non starter for me. I'll wait a bit longer and see what else comes along.

Well tech is hit and miss depending on what it pairs too then it is pretty rubbish. My reference point is a garmin 500 which works well. It does not d maps or upload stuff but I can download the files that is a huge start over the wahoo which is usefless to me unless I buy another phone. Wahoo have not said it wont work they want the logs from the app however there instructions but as I am having email issues with my phone I cant send them. I will have to try again.

Also as some poeple with the same phone have success it suggest a diffferent issue that is not so predictable.

Also wahoo site clearly states if the app install and it verifies its O.K then all will be well which it isn't.
The phone is new back in April for it has the latest android version.

So yet more tech faff. Had two computers go down recently one was brand new and windows update failed to install properly and the operating system was lost. I am not very tech enthused at present.

I had the same issue yesterday with my Nexus 5X. I was also having issues with the fingerprint sensor so I tried a factory reset which fixed both problems.

I simply cant be arsed with tech that is fiddly. wahoo need to work on this. Garmin in contrast can be plugged into my PC and I can read the files the old fashioned way. I am have bought a garmin 1000 today so I will have a play with that. I might be underwhelmed as well.

A factory reset means I loose everything on my phone unless I spend time saving it all to an SD card. why would I want to do that for the sake of a silly computer? Time is precious. I am not wasting it on try to make a wahoo work.

The fact it has to be paired with a phone to work is an issue for me anyway as I dont carry this big phone everywhere. I leave it at work often for example.

The thing is it only needs to be paired to the phone once to set things up. I don't bother hooking it up to my phone when on a ride and when I get back it uploads by wifi automatically. I would never go back to the old Fashioned Garmin way of setting up a computer. That to me is too much Faff.

The point I was making was that the problem was with my phone, not the GPS unit.
