Do the self adhesive patches tend to work usually? This was my first experience of using and wasn't the best advert for them.

For a proper puncture (nail etc) then yes they do work. More effective if you get the tube refitted and inflated quickly.

Oh so patch it and then wack it back in the inner tube then before inflation. See I usually like to test by inflating before putting it back.
The tube will stretch more than the patch, leading to a leak. Bad practice.
Test overnight if at home, hope for the best on the road.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I got over this quick. I ride recreation only. Nothing stellar, but 1500 miles this year so far. Had 2 flats. One was glass with total rapid blowout. New tube and patch and made it home, delayed me maybe 7 minutes. One was a poor tube install/pinch. Added air, made it home.

    That's on GP 4000 s2's. Not gators.

If you learn to lever on/off a tire and replace a tube quickly, it's really nothing.

I practiced at home, seriously, to get better at it using an old tire and tube.
