Quote 'According to the report a video surveillance camera affixed to a nearby house has captured high quality images of the accident and is allowing Riccione Municipal police officers the opportunity to review the exact dynamics of the incident.

It also goes on to say that comments from people who have allegedly seen the video show that Nicky Hayden was hit from the left by the Peugeot car as Hayden was cycling across an intersection.

It is believed that studies from the video footage will attempt to ascertain the speed of both rider and driver at the time of the incident, and that they will also attempt to determine if Hayden was listening to music on an iPod that was found at the scene of the accident.

I'm reserving judgement. In some European countries (like Belgium, I believe) the car driver's insurance is liable whoever is to "blame". It's really interesting to see how that changes the dynamic between cars and cycles.

It does in the sense that in Belgium if you don't use the cycling paths they get mad at you and the Police stop you. The quality of such paths is patchy... some are terrible, but you have to use them

I have that problem in the UK. They've built miles of cycle lane here but its not maintained or swept. Im constantly getting punctures on that cycle lane even with the heaviest and thickest Conti Gator Hardshell tyres. But then again, if car drivers could be trusted to drive safe and think about other people other than themselves, we wouldn't need to use a cycle lane for our safety.

Rest In Peace Nicky. Such sad news and you're in our thoughts.

Devastating for all concerned. His fiancée had the worry of him being on track, but to lose him like this must be just about the worst thing for her. Only a select few become world champion at that level.

    RIP Nicky Hayden. Ride free.
