The grupetto is the group of sprinters who just want to get in before the time limit, surely?

Yep. It's the Italian equivalent to Autobus, not Peloton

Ah, my bad. So what is Italian for peloton? (Refuses to ask Italian sister-in-law as she'd just laugh at me)

The chasers are inseguitori I believe?

Chute! Pelizotti and a BMC rider. 2 Movistar riders too. Confusing pictures

Edit not a BMC rider - Trek

Leaders have 2'10" advantage to chasers, 5'11" to peloton

Can't believe the Italians have adopted the French(!) phrase 'peloton'

Dumoulin with a big mob of Sunweb riders around him, looking like a proper GC team for now.

One that's towing it's sprinter, though.
Most of them would disappear fast, if the pace was lifted.

    That's why I added "for now" ;)

    what a gwaan?

why is there a dolphin in a bike race? and why did anyone expect him or her to not go down?

Impressive riding from the leaders to pull out almost 3 minutes. No flat road for the group to catch them back up before the next climb either.

Ref peloton in Italian. Wonder if I'm wrong (or more to the point, Google Translate is wrong). Latest tweet from giroditalia is "> 2'20" Chasers (20 riders)
    > 5'08" Gruppo
    - 3 km GPM Passo del Carnaio
    61 km
    #Giro100"

So perhaps "Gruppo" is the right word.

Trek and FDJ now working to keep their men ahead of Quintana's hare, Amador.
Always amazes me when teams do this with 10 stages to come.

I thought "gruppo" was just "group", as in "gruppo maglia rosa" or "gruppo Dumoulin"

There's no point giving away three minutes for free. Especially as there isn't another hard stage (for domestiques) until Tuesday.

Landa pushed on and is just off the front - seems a bit futile.

Trek and FDJ now doing all the work.
    What a waste.
