I think Pinot offers the best value in the betting

Hansen starting his 17th consecutive Grand Tour

Griepel is trying keep his run going of winning at least one stage in each Grand Tour he starts: 11 tours (2007 Vuelta was the last time he didn't win one)

    Agreed.

Must be a UK bookmaker to have Thomas at such short odds. I'll be interested to see how he does over three weeks, but those odds don't reflect his past record.

Start numbers would suggest he isn't even the Sky leader.

Yates and Mollema reasonable odds for each way too.

You could make a credible argument either way really.

Paddypower has Quintana evens, Nibali 5, Kruijswijk 10 and G 12.

I haven't heard much about Kruijswijk, how is his form? 7th overall in Catalonia and 8th in Valencia doesn't bode well.

    Quintana for me I think.

With some support he might be able to avoid the late race issues he's had in the past. Wasn't it the 2015 tour where he was right up there till the very last mountain stage? And that was having worked as a domestique through the race.

I also don't see him winning (pending something dramatic happening, you never know), but maybe the podium - which would be reflected in the odds.

    Better track record no?

    I get them confused.

They're pretty good results for him. He has always saved his best for the Giro.

Maybe I should have stuck an E/W on him as well then. I went with Pinot and Yates (only to give something extra to cheer for - stake's only worth four quid...)

    Zakarin's a better E/W shout IMO.

Really, really love the Giro. I know it's fashionable to say it's a better for actual racing than the Tour, but it really is.

This should be a great edition with a really strong field. I think it'll end the 'Geraint Thomas as possible GT winner' caper once-and-for-all.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

Don't talk to me about E/W bets on Kruijswijk. I still haven't got over last year.

Gold leafing the bike tonight with Prince Philip quotes (stars rank trouble caused), then up Tescos for some sardines.

i'd like Pinot or Dumoulin to win this. Would love a British win but cant see G doing it over three weeks. Need to check out the course not looked into the opening stages yet.

    Usually a great race though

    Stage 14's a funny one - Vuelta-esque profile and only 131km.

Good that there is a mix of shorter and longer stages.

I rather like the understated look of stage 12, right after the ITT, for a spot of ambushing....

And some proper time trialling. The more I look at it, the more I'm tempted by a Dumoulin bet.

I predict Quintana will ride a very boring race, then probably win.

The team presentation is currently underway.
Nothing special for the 100th edition though.
    Same old stuff.

Already had an e/w on him at 18/1. Seemed worth a punt.

    God I love the Giro.

Adam was 4th in last year's TDF. Great racing head as well, like his brother.

Pirazzi and Ruffoni (both of Bardiani) have both return positive pre-Giro drug tests. Dumbarses.

The Cycling Podcast preview spent a good amount of time discussing if the traditions of Italian Cycling were dying out. Seems not.

Guess there was always a reason Pirazzi never got a move to a WT team. This was probably it.
