office, calls, blah blah blah session

was asked to do some fiddly analysis, but i've already told them cause/effect/solution umptyfuckittyeleven times, maybe i'll just make up some numbers, they can't tell the difference, and as they won't do what's needed it'll make no difference anyway :D

some new shiny shiny arrived friday while i was skiving, might help pass some time between espressos

    Morning all,
Bit chilly out first thing, but very pretty. Nice bit of ground mist as I rode through the park, couldn't see a damned thing at times because of the glare reflecting off it. Ride was nice, destination not so much. Even a nice bit of early morning sunshine can't make Hanworff look good. First cup of tea has been drunk, now have to wait for some of my colleagues to turn up and make me another one. Well, they won't be getting any biscuits if they don't.

I feel great this morning, had a fantastic weekend fannying about the house/garden/woods in the sun while the GF was away, ended up getting smashed and lying on the decking yesterday afternoon, perfect. Might get out on the road bike this evening if the predicted rain holds off, it's saying it's meant to be dark cloud now but it's bright sunshine, you never know. The cannondale is feeling left out as the other bikes have received a lot of attention recently...

Shoot sleep which is a surprise after the wife drive from friends and I help drink their ale

Today is Birmingham based, so an early start was had and a late finish will happen

Right, time for tea number 3

Bloody hell, TLW is ahead of me in the tea drinking stakes. I'd expect it if alcohol was involved, but not with tea. Give it 10 minutes and number 3 should turn up. The computer and phone systems all died this morning, unfortunately they are back up and running now.

Some schools are on holidays, so the morning commute was a breeze instead of the usual 20 minutes for the second half mile of my journey.

Yes, I could cycle in but I prefer to save my riding for when it's enjoyable, dodging rush-hour traffic is not.

Work feels like the Marie Celeste, hardly anyone here.

    Morning humans,

I tried to decline Monday, turns out you cant. Like Slog I drove in taking all of five minutes in which time the engine was just starting to warm up, such a pointless drive but meh considering it takes 15-20 when the schools are in just shows how stupid things are.
Anyway, chest is still tight from last week so likely dying either that or theres something nasty in the office air, latter is more likely trying to kill off the workforce to allow legitimate cutbacks.

Anyway, work, home doze on sofa, food, doze on sofa an bed is my plan of the day.

I've just spent the last hour trying to work out what mounting hardware I need because some tw*tting c*ck tw*t made the eyelet for a rear shock a 'non standard' size. Hooray for having engineering friends to bore holes out for me, this time in a non sexual way...

It was misty when I left the house at 7 for my Monday pedal into work, although its turned nice now. Now stuffing face to make up the calorie deficit while working through the gory legal details of my big reorg. I think I've earned a cold cider of the rocket fuel strength variety when I get home.

It is, who the hell makes bike parts that are 0.3mm smaller diameter than standard? Cane creek apparently. Knobs.

    Ciao

SPMF is just settling down to home made 'burgers, chips, onion rings and Singha beer (the latter not home made) with bambino and wondering whether to spread out cost of 105 brifters, f & r mechs or take the hit in a Merlin bundle: original plan was to use the 10 year old stuff off the foul weather bike but I remember how rubbish it shifts and get angry.

Anything better than 105 is not worth it as it's just going to get smashed up.

    Dilemma. Thoughts?

Was considering SRAM (have Red and Rival equppied bikes) and although I far prefer it to Shimano I find it more fragile: 105 is bombproof and when I smash it up I won't care.

Let me investigate though - good call.

As an aside, am watching utterly compelling behind the scenes dock in Belgian on 100th RVV on YouTube. Really really good stuff.

Had Rival that lasted about six years before the RHS shifter broke. Have five year old apex, still going strong despite taking a slider and deforming both levers. Also have old skool 10 speed red that doesn't miss a beat.

Agree 100% re Red - mine is the same age as yours and is lovely to use: far nicer than the D/A and Ultegra I also have.

I went through a r/h Rival in a couple of years but as I didn't pay for it I didn't mind too much.

    105 is also cheaper ......

To be honest, I don't think there's much betweeb=n apex and rival nowadays, other than the one more click

They say the same about Ultegra and 105.

So do I price up Apex vs 105?

Some older type Centaur. Complete with BB and a spare set of H bars. It's even got the metal shift lever that is so reliable which they don't do anymore.
You wouldn't cry too much if that got 'smashed up'. Why ''smash it up' anyway, why not take care of it?

105 ain't what it used to be. My first upgrade was to 105 and it went on and on and on...

I do tend to really look after stuff - my crit bike is 7 years old and when I was cleaning it the other day realised that it was still mint.

It's just that it's likely to get crashed, dropped, abused through winter - will be cleaned to an inch of its life each weekend but I suspect it may get a tad abused.
