Cycling is exercise to me, not sport. The only person I'm "competing" with is myself. If I wish to beat my previous Strava segments that is up to me. Nobody else's times are relevant

It's the same for me, it still never ceases to amaze me, how many people seem to automatically assume I know what my 'FTP' is, and so on and so forth. The first time someone asked me, I actually had to Google it.

I definitely think that randomly offering up your 'numbers' or asking someone else theirs is a bit of a no no. However, I've never had anyone ask me about my FTP. I presume that means it's very unremarkable and no one wonders what it could be. Sob, sob.

The most glaringly obvious cheat is people who ride a shorter course. For example there may be a 100 and a 60 route where people book the 100 and ride the 60, knowing the timing chip only tracks the start finish. )

    Is this for real?

So people will pay the extra and take the place in the longer race (denying the place to someone who actually wants it) then deliberately enter the shorter race so they can pretend that they are faster than they actually are?

WTAF has the world come to?

Recognition at last Matthew, well done!, a justified honour :D

  • For what it's worth, I know my FTP because I was curious to know. It's a low and humbling number.

Just make it up depending on the attitude of the person asking.

Normal nice person - around or thereabouts the real number. Clubbies: increase it massively.

[................. assume I know what my 'FTP' is, and so on and so forth. The first time someone asked me, I actually had to Google it.

A club mate explained it to me as an acronym of criteria some men use to assess the desirability of women: Face, T*ts, P**sy......

Now I feel like a cheat because I got an 86 mile ride for the price of a 60. :(
