  • Just come in from a relatively very cautious/slow 40-odd minute ride around the block, was quite refreshing and has woken me up, but the gusts feel like they are getting stronger and the binmen are around.

Knowing my luck and history with rubbish, I would cycle past the lorry as a gust grabs a wheelie bin from a binman and it takes me out!

Might pop out again later if the wind drops and becomes less gusty before sunset.

    Another site for wind info...

  • On the fatbike this morning in Bristol the tailwind was very useful.

I nearly managed to take out myself and a roadie as I went out on a pedestrian crossing during stationary traffic.. didnt check for bikes filtering up the inside, which of course this chap was. Angry shout by him understandably but lights meant I couldn't offer an apology

I'm WFH today. I'm watching my neighbour put up a marquee because he's getting married tomorrow.

It looks both hilarious and fucking dangerous. The leaded window on my stairs is flexing in the wind.

Stay safe on the way home folks.

I think we missed the worst of it the North East for a change. Rode in this morning, not too windy, and just a light drizzle. Even had 2 hours of blue sky before lunch. Rained this afternoon but stopped now. The cherry picker hire company across the road still have all their pickers in their "up" position, which I always take as a sign that the wind isn't THAT bad :)

If you get married in your back garden, why not doing it at a decent time of the year? Is it to save money on the marquee?
People are weird... I got married in Chelsea for 300 quid... less than 2 grand if you count in even the lavish meal...

If you don't invite t-w-a-t-s and people you dislike, the number is unlikely to be over 20

You weren't heading up Gloucester Road at 7am'ish by any chance were you? Drove past a chap by the Memorial who looked like he was very much enjoying the tailwind on a fatty.

I've got a new tree in the garden!

I say "new" it's second hand and rather old. It's odd how much bigger they look when lying down.

It came with a couple of fence panels, also second hand and in need of some repair. I sense a communal bonfire with the neighbours may be on the cards.

Its a second marriage for both of them and they've been together for 10 years. Registry office wedding,, nice family affair in the afternoon and then evening do at their house with the marquee for the wider group.

Its probably more that he runs a small building company and if the weather is good then he's working on site.

Not that I should have to justify it.....

Weather was properly iffy when inset out at 7 this morning, with the forecast for the afternoon I decided on the train today. Took over 3 hours to get home, and the weather was fine.

Well, that was "interesting" - had to take the quick and nasty route home going S-N , every single side road was a gust valley.
However, the E-W section was fun as hell, spinning out at 38mph on the flat, until i tried to stop - smee....... ..... eeeek.

Lincolnshire got a battering. Local town had numerous trees down. One has gone through the garage of a house down the road from us. Another fell across the road near the local council offices and blocked it (it's all been filmed by a driving instructor who was driving by as it fell).

Went home at lunch and it was very windy. Probably the windiest I've known it to be here for a long time. Lovely and calm now though.

Bit of a mad one really.

That the one shown on the daily fail? I'm suprised they didn't ask who was at fault, the tree or the ground..

The ride in was hard, used different sprockets on the cassette. Bigger sprockets along The Portway struggling at times to maintain double figures and stay in a straight line, then used smaller sprockets when the route turned through 90 degrees and the wind was behind me and easily riding along in excess on 20mph. The ride home was fast but not wind assisted as there wasn't much wind of note, the windsock in work was pointing in the direction I was riding. :D
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

As I posted earlier, in the morning the wind up here wasn't as bad but still a full-on headwind.

Coming home? Basically died down to zero

No idea as I haven't seen it anywhere apart from on my friend's phone. Good job he was going steady though. Fell down right in front of him.

This is the one I was thinking of.

    That's the one.

I made use of it last night. I went to see a friend in town and usually park just up the road and left of where that tree fell. As the road was shut last night to clear the tree, it was totally empty and I had plenty of parking options. :)
