Don't forget to take a "bidon" & fit holders for them.

Go on then. What's a "bidon"?
Bottle. Bidon is the French term...

Ah - welcome to the world of by-cyclisterists.

Don't worry - you'll have to get used to a world of for no reason random words in a foreign language (bidon-bottle, chapeau-well done, Audax/randonneiur - going for a really long ride, souplesse-how you turn your pedals, danseurs-standing up on your pedals as you ride along, peloton - a bunch of people riding together gebnerally in a race, or a sportive or a randonneur or a club run or just out like riding, like, sportive-going for a moderately long long ride with loads of people but some think it's a race but it isn't, club-group of people who take themselves far too seriously). You'll get the gist as you go along.

Also be prepared for people to comment on what you can and can't wear (why are you wearing that yellow t-shirt/top - you haven't won the tour. Why are you wearing that massively discounted team top from a team that folded 5 years ago when you didn't ride for the team) - that sort of stuff.

Just ignore them and do what you want to do when you want to do it.

How did the ride go by the way?

French was never my strong suit!

I'm afraid myself and my daughter both sported a very fetching dayglo green jacket, not sure if that's ok.

It went well, my mate came along with us (an experienced cyclist) and we managed to do 7.5 miles before my 8 year old started flagging. Truth be told I was too! Still, baby steps is the way.

We all absolutely had a great time and can't wait to get out there again. There were no wobbles or any near misses.

Thank god for padded under crackers though.

Pitsford is pretty close to me and a great place to pedal around . . . there's even a coffee shop and a bike shop so you can ogle some more exotic wheelage!! If you're in that area, there are loads and loads of quiet roads to go on too - I'm on them all the time. With summer coming up, a couple of short evening spins in the week followed by a longer weekend ride increasing slightly every week and you'll be amazed what you can achieve come September. Good luck and enjoy it.
