It's only January, plenty more contenders will come along I'm sure.
Valid question by the OP which has been answered, so it's served it's purpose at least.

Yeah, to be fair I'm not criticising the OP. The question is perfectly valid, but some of the answers...

I use km because I am used to using OS maps etc for outdoor stuff before I did a lot of road cycling so it's how I think about distance and speed. I only really think in miles for driving.

I also find the arithmetic a bit easier in a decimal system.

Strangely though I have never seen a thread where someone asks how they can average 32 kph but plenty where the aim is 20 mph.

Seen a few where people talk about getting their average up to 25km/h in order to keep up with the club run or what have you (mainly in Road Beginners).

Route here. Technically it's to a suburb of Leicester as that's where my in laws live. Route misses off first km and last km for privacy purposes

    Add 20km and make it a 200km - double century ;)

Why this obsession with km? Last time I looked all the road signs in the UK were in miles, and Leicester is about 110 miles from London according to my car's speedo. :)
Isn't it about time we caught up with the rest of the world on this though! It's only us and our backwards cousins across the pond that really use this measure now anyway

I think you're all just ignoring the elephant in the room. The real issue is that, if you don't use the bike, the air just gets bored and wanders off to find something to do.

This has to be the single most perfect comment I've ever seen about power meters.

    Ever.

When is? It just makes sense to me that having apparently been metric for over 40 years that we might use metric measurements where they're seen most

We've been utterly consistent in our participation in Europe; not joining the Euro, adopting metric units for some things but not others, failing to learn any other languages...

    Really?
Sure, you can produce whatever power you can produce, you don't need a power meter, however, if you want to see the number your aiming at, determined by a scientific instrument, then you do need the meter.

I was impressed, it was spot on. Just a little confused over the location, hence quoting you over there so the moment wasn't lost.
