Recommend me a bad weather Jersey/Jacket

I am after a decent waterproof jacket, preferably something close fitting and not flappy, a race fit kind of thing.
I can’t afford to buy the likes of Castelli or Rapha etc, at around the £200 mark so am wondering what else is there for around (or under) the £100 price bracket?
A bit of research has thrown up the Galibier Mistral Foul 2 Weather Jacket which is £72 but unfortunately sold out, they also do a Tourmalet jacket which looks good as well and is cheaper however is slightly less fitted, any recommendations apart from these?
Thanks

I own 3: A Gabba (like seemingly everyone else).
The new Perfetto.
And this: http://www.bikesheduk.com/clothing/jack ... per-jacket
It's half the price of the other jackets but performs just as well, it's a cr*p-weather jacket with a decent race-cut, not downpour-proof (neither are the others), but it keeps you plenty warm enough not to care.0 -
I'm sure Bender will be along soon with his website and reviews - but check this baby out. It's now my goto winter jacket.

The Mistral is back in stock from the 25th I think, worth the wait its very good. The Chapeau Echelon was half price at tweeks appears to be full price now tho.
Scotbycycles have some.0 -
The Endura Equipe

I'm 6 1 and got a medium.
old stock however...but pretty efficient at being half decent water tight.. eg it lasted an hour in real pssn rain.. only a slight cuff intrusion. It is pretty well cut and wouldnt be too far off to be able to race in it either.
I do have a Gore Active One that all reviews rave as being breathable and solid in the wet.. but never worn it yet... got that for 160 down from 2100 -
If it`s not wet, Mavic Aksium
If it`s wet, Castelli Perfetto. There really is nothing that compares in wet weather at £100Trek,,,, too cool for school ,, apparently0 -
Currently in the Rapha sale the Winter Windproof is £90, bargain. I think I paid £160 for mine. Amazing piece of kit - very warm but not waterproof. In terms of keeping warm its my go to jersey/jacket when the temperature is low. Brevet Long Sleeve Windblock is currently £85 so worth a look as well.
As I also ride Mountain Bike (and more so in the winter), I use a Bontrager RXL 180 Softshell jacket. Can be had for £80, I see this as similar to my Rapha Pro Team Softshell. Its windproof and water resistant. I also find it warm enough, on the MTB I generally don't work as consistently hard as I do on the road (we tend to chill and chat more on the MTB) - so for on the road it will be fine.0 -

There are plenty of things that compare at that price, and that's a reduced price for the Perfetto anyway. My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

How is that going to compare to a Gore windtopper jacket? Thats what I'm using as it was in the wardrobe from my MTB days but works well with a base layer - Not very water resistant though.Advocate of disc brakes.0 -

Depends which windstopper. The shell type or softshell type. Windstopper as a fabric (be that hard or softshell) isn't marketed as waterproof though, in practice, it's often as good as. Neither usually feature taped seams so water will eventually get in or the fabric will wet out and conduct heat out.
The aeron is windtex, a softshell windstopper type membrane. It will keep out water for ages but will get damp through the seams in the end. I suspect the OP here was after a hardshell type rain jacket but it's not clear. My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

That's what I use this time of year; Gore Phantom with a baselayer. It's very warm and windproof at the front with a breathable back. It was a bit water repellent when new but now it's just like a sponge.
I have a Goretec Paclite shell for if it's properly raining
There's an interesting Gabba type jersey plus armwarmers in the Vulpine sale, and a couple of waterproofs...

Thanks for all the replies so far, some interesting choices on her so far.bendertherobot wrote:I suspect the OP here was after a hardshell type rain jacket but it's not clear.
Wasnt really bothered too much, I have a couple of winter jackets which suit when the temp drops but am looking for a jersey or jacket which will keep me relatively dry when the heavens open.
Given I have a Gabba type jersey from Etxeondo I suppose I am looking for a race-fit hardshell jacket? that said I think a waterproof jersey would be good as well.Obsessed is a word used by the lazy to describe the dedicated!0 -

Thanks Bender, the one I have is the softshell and as far as I can tell isn't repelant at all but that may be down to age.Advocate of disc brakes.0 -
I have a Castelli Alpha Jacket and I have been out in the pouring rain, the only part of my top half that got wet was my lower back & bum from so much spray because I refuse to fit mudguards :P
I think I got it for ~£170 from Wiggle about 5-6 weeks ago when it was priced at £210, they had a code to get £40 off a clothing spend over £200. Then I got a further 5% off for being a gold member and a 3.3% cashback from topcashback. Effectively got it for about £1600 -

Sorry,, The perfetto convertible is £200 , What I meant was nothing at £100 compares to it in terms of performance.
Certainly nothing I`ve seen yet anyway.Trek,,,, too cool for school ,, apparently0 -
I can get the Prefetto from Wiggle for £194 from Wiggle, but I have read its water resistant and not waterproof, ok in a light shower but heavy rain and it gives in quickly, is this true?Obsessed is a word used by the lazy to describe the dedicated!0

How much! It's not waterproof. It's still a windstopper product so will take a while to wet out but, in my experience, it does that quicker than similar products. You'll still be warm(ish).
For more protection the Parentini Mossa is the best bet. And the Lusso Max Repel. For colder days the Mossa.2 and the Lusso Extreme. If that type of product is what you want they offer better value and imo better performance.
The Perfetto at almost £200 is madness. At £100 it's ok. But even then I'd probably just get the dhb rain defence ls http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-aeron-rain- ... ve-jersey/My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

Different product altogether though. Gore need to recoup that development cost and, by all accounts, it's brilliant.

I think you`re confusing the Perfetto with the Perfetto convertible, which is totally different.
The convertible is basically the new Gabba long sleeve. Different material to the Perfetto (s/s) and is waterproof in my experience.
I rode all afternoon in torrential rain and stayed both dry and comfy. Only storm Barbara has defeated it so far and that was only by a little.Trek,,,, too cool for school ,, apparently0 -

I like the idea of the Perfetto if it's waterproof for all but torrential rain, but if water seeps through easily then it's not what I'm looking forObsessed is a word used by the lazy to describe the dedicated!0 -

I have two winter rapha. But not even close when it comes to the Gabba. They are not collecting dust. Anyone wants to buy? Both in XL.
I have bought so many things of Rapha. You wont' imaging it. But slowly I am coming to my senses. There are things they have are just not worth the price or use. I still buy them though purely for hmm design and looks. But jacket?! I bought so many and really they are crap. 2 months ago I bought their pack jacket and it was totally rubbish. I was caught in the rain and got wet in less than a few minutes and it wasn't raining that hard!!
Whereas I was caught in torrential down pour this Monday during tube strike and I can't be happier with my Gabba.
I also have one of those Specialised Event one but again Gabba was much better.
No matter what jacket I buy I always just go back to Gabba. I wish I had them first so I didn't have to buy so many Raphas and others.
Although this week I bought the Castili Alpha Jacket. Lets hope that is as good as the price it demands.0 -
