Anyone doing LEL who is also considering doing any 300 event earlier in the summer?
I was considering the 300 from Rhos on Sea in Wales... in early July, looks stunning, some company would be great (I am not doing LEL)left the forum March 20230 -

Highly likely I will be doing this: http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/17-748/ - both as LEL training, and also because the Elan Valley is bloody beautiful...0 -
^ one of the best 300s on earth. Not an easy 300, but rewarding all the way around.
It's 5 years since I last rode it and that is too long. I'm in this year!0 -
Can't do that one, as I am in Italy in April. Been in the Elan valley... yes, very beautiful.left the forum March 20230

Tickets sold out in two minutes for each release. I could not get jnto the page let alone fill it in. On the waiting list now. My only hope is alot of people bottle it and a place becomes free.
I dont think lel will that difficult. It does not require training like a getting road race fit does. Most of the challange is mental. The fittness side is taken care by doing longer "fat burning" rides as it will be hard to eat enough calories to replace all you use. Pacing your self is key (this is the same for any long ride) as is carry the right kit oh and a bike that is comfortable. Put alot of miles on it day after day to make sure there are no niggles.
I might do a long audax later this year now i am a member of audax u.k. the other goal is 12hr and 24hr tt but on a road bike.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0 -
Yep, almost exactly same outcome for me. In the final sale, I got right through to the checkout with the entry in the basket, then the website timed out when I clicked to confirm the Ts and Cs. Nightmare!
I can't find the link to the waiting list on the LEL website (https://londonedinburghlondon.com/enter/). Have I missed something? Only as it's stated above you've been able to join it.
Went to put an entry in for the newly renamed London Wales London only to find that was full too. What a nightmare internet booking weekend it was!0 -

Demand far outstripped supply with each sale being sold out in 2-3 minutes.
Waiting list - email them on 2017@londonedinburghlondon.com
The waiting list is several hundred deep and is not first come first served as they try to ensure that the flavour of the event is maintained, there is some stuff on their Facebook about the next stages.
There really are only two large participation 1000km+ events in the world, PBP and LEL. LEL has had it capacity upped to 1500 this year, and I think that will truly stretch things. The roads used are different to PBP, where you are generally on fairly large roads, but French drivers treat the riders, generally, with respect. LEL uses the country lanes and, well, you know what most drivers think of large numbers of people on bikes.....
Good luck all who are riding. I am looking forward to working at a control this time.0 -
OK - thanks for the intel and the email address.0

No worries. Good luck.
Train as if you are in. A lot will drop out before the ride.
If you fancy something a bit shorter as a goal - http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/17-62/
(It might be a bit shorter, but a lot harder, proper head banger of a ride. The weather last year put it well up there in the list of hardest rides I have done).0 -

Seen the route... fxxk me Hardknott, Wrynose and the Rosedale Chimney... Might be a good one for next year as a pre-PBP event to bag the registration early, seeing it's a BRMleft the forum March 20230 -

Ouch!! 13,600m climbing...0 -
It's unlikely to run next year I am guessing. I think the main reason it is running this year is to give everyone another try at it - it had an unusually high attrition rate. I have never seen so many people drop out of anything, and some really strong riders too. It was a bit bonkers and the weather was gruesome.
So ride it this year, or you may have to wait to a few years. His Pendle 600km does feature most of the savage parts of the 1000km though and is a cracking weekend.0 -

Anyone got any idea of the best place to follow LEL? For some reason I'm dead excited about it.
I followed PBP a few years ago at the other place and it was better than telly.A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject - Churchill0 -
