I'm sure the wagon driver didn't give one thought to the cyclist, he probably never even saw him as he passed him, but if he were to get some sound, sensible advice, without hitting him with a penalty charge ( thats always viewed as a "lesson learner" by the police, give em a ticket...that will totally alter their driving habits...NOT) he might just come away with a modicum of understanding about cyclists needs etc. The thing is cyclists are NOT going to go away, there is room for everyone if everyone will try. COMPROMISE is not a dirty word!!0 -
Hi All
Sorry I haven't replied, I've been very busy at work / family. Thank you Guanajuato for posting on their Twitter. I do appreciate it and will contact them this evening. I will also upload the footage today at some point and post the link back here.
I think the same sentiment has been echoed on here as I also feel; just because it is the norm shouldn't make it OK and that because no serious damage or injury occurred the driver (and all drivers) need to be educated about the risk they pose to cyclists.
Thank you for all the support you've given.0 -

Only due to the luck that he didn't squeeze you 4 inches (or less) further than he did.0 -

Don't think the vid does your case/cause any favours, looks very inconclusive, wide angle go pro type lenses always make things seem farther away. All lies and jest..still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest....0

Looks close to me, you can see the rear of the trailer getting closer to the kerb before the overtake is complete, showing he's pulling in on the cyclist whilst alongside. For the rear of a HGV to start coming in, the cab has to be turned in well before and will be closer to the kerb than the rear is (obviously because he sees the car coming towards him head on).
And the Astra coming the other way still has its brake lights on and is almost stationary, proving he's had to pretty much stop to avoid the oncoming lorry.
It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to work out it was a dangerous, twatty move.0 -
That's why you shouldn't ride in the gutter.0

Phew! Just read the subject heading and at first thought you'd been raped by a Transformer!0

Having now seen the footage I think NorvernRob has got it about right.. a bit of a tool, the other comment about riding in the gutter... I kind of get that too..in circs like that I tend to try to take up a more central position..I would rather hear his horn in frustration than have him close me down like he did the rider.Overall the entire road looks very unpleasant to ride on, some of the cars after the incident appear to have little concept of road position re cyclists.
I hope Ocado do something to make their driver aware, unfortunately I think they will swerve it, as any kind of admission in their eyes leaves them "liable"...good luck.0
