    Oleg Tinkoff: never knowingly classy.

We'll miss the money, but precious little else.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

He's not wrong in some respects. But yes, classless.

The people who are wishing him good riddance really don't understand sport as entertainment.
  • He's a dick but he does speak some truths

If cycling fans could furnish an agreed list of team owners deemed acceptable, pls do so

My guess is the criteria = unseen and unheard

He's a dick but he does speak some truths

But even when he's speaking the truths, he's a complete tool about it, which sort of undermines things a bit

    Does he? Name two.

He's a sexist, racist dinosaur. Good riddance.

Just how would one go about expressing dislike for and dissatisfaction with a rider who has so many ardent fans as Contador, without coming across as a tool, I wonder?
He's take a shed load of flak for having the temerity to confirm the state of his relationship with his longtime leader.
The truth, in this instance, was always going to hurt, especially in a certain quarter.
Of course, much of the abuse now heading his way comes from Contador's fan base. (not saying that applies to anyone here)
Ironic and completely hypocritical, coming from that faction, given how after the 2014 season finale, they lauded his ludicrous proposal for the 3GT challenge.

More of a dick then than now, but a dick nevertheless.

He's take a shed load of flak for having the temerity to confirm the state of his relationship with his longtime leader.
The truth, in this instance, was always going to hurt, especially in a certain quarter.

    He could say:
"Our relationship hasn't been very good, and we disagree on a lot of things. I think he is past his best, and can't see him winning another GT. But all the best to him."

    Instead we got:
"...as a person he’s never really appealed to me. I don’t like him. Even in the team, most of the riders don’t like him. He ended up having a bad relation with almost everyone, apart from his little Spanish group.

I think Trek manager Luca Guercilena has to be careful. He signed them as a group but I think this group will create a lot of mess at Trek. I want to warn Guercilena about that. It was difficult for anyone to do that to me because I’m strong and have big balls but I’m sure they’ll do a mess at Trek.

...I think he’s going to be like a limping duck. He’s going to look stupid. At the Vuelta he was dropped by the best four or five riders, next year it will be by the best 20 riders. I don’t think he’s ever going to win another Grand Tour. He should forget about it and quit.

...Contador won’t be at the farewell party because I told him: you’re sick, stay at home, you can’t bring a virus to the party and make the other guys sick before the World Championships. I think the party will be better without him anyway because he’s a sad person."

    Complete knobbery and completely unclassy.

Seems to be a cultural thing. Just a few decades behind.
  • He's right re some of his fire directed at the UCI (in this and other interviews). They well and truly fooked up over their handling of 1. announcing WT team reduction from 18 to 17 teams next year halfway through this year, and 2. the WT expansion and discussions with the teams

I wont be sad to see Oleg disappear, but that interview was pretty funny!

  • This just goes to show that even with all the money he has, Oleg is bitter that he couldn't buy himself a Tour De France win.

    A prick.

    This, pretty much.
At least Oleg is being transparent and gives us a bit on insight.
His prose has never been and never will be, winning any prizes for literature.

That's like the standard Brailsford speak for which Sir Dave gets loads of criticism.
PC words that say next to nothing.
Holding Oleg Tinkoff up to that level of diplomacy is like expecting Anjem Choudary to start preaching World peace.

Feeling some hypocrisy here...it's fine for us to slag off riders but not Oleg?

hmmm, what's the Russaian for "black kettle"?

Most of us on here, I presume, are not team owners with a large profile within the sport. If we were, we might choose our words more carefully.

Slag 'em off all you want.

That's fair enough. but few of the posts above say "I disagree with Oleg because..." They all just say "prick"
