“The date and entry process for Velo Birmingham 2018 will be announced shortly, please keep an eye on your emails & on our social media pages for updates. Best Wishes, The Velo Birmingham Team“
To not have anything announced yet suggests major logistical issues with the event which is a huge shame0 -
Rumour is that Feb 8 is D-Day
Fingers crossed.0 -
So, the nimby crowd won by the sound of things
From the official Facebook account:
*VÉLO BIRMINGHAM UPDATE*
Since that memorable day on September 24th last year we've been beavering away behind the scenes and we’re now able to share the news that Vélo Birmingham is returning in Spring 2019!
Working with our partners Birmingham City Council, we’ve made some important changes to the event, including moving to a new Spring date and developing a brand new route. These changes will enable us to secure the long term sustainability of Vélo Birmingham as we grow it into one of the world’s biggest and most iconic cycling events.
We’ll still have 100 miles of closed roads along with the epic city centre start and finish, but thanks to the extra daylight hours and improved route infrastructure we’ll be able to deliver an even better experience. This will ensure that every single one of our riders achieves their goal and reaches the finish line in good time for that ice cold free beer!0 -
Wonder what this is then? At the bottom of an email I've just had from Velo Birmingham....
"In the coming weeks we’re hoping to announce a brand new 100 mile, closed road Vélo event which will take place in Autumn 2018!
We can’t say too much more at this stage but stay tuned for more details which will follow soon. "

I know from friend who who works at Notts council - there attitude was - if Birmingham don't want a velo we will welcome it with open arms.
Think the spring 2019 velo will be on a sunday evening - although my guess it that is probably gone for the foreseeable future .0 -
Ooh, exciting times.
But the sceptic in me says that they will have the same problems as Birmingham did; a big route from a relatively small place.
The older I get, the better I was.0 -
Autumn 2018 (23/09/2018)
Velo South now confirmed. Apparently the birmingham velo wasn't blocked by any councils - CSM snubbed a 2nd Birmingham Velo in favour of this one.
Bit of an Embarrassment for Birmingham to be honest. I doubt the 2019 Birmingham velo will ever go ahead to be honest.0 -
Yup, this was the email this morning...
Following the news last week that Vélo Birmingham is moving to Spring 2019, we’re now delighted to introduce a brand new addition to the Vélo family… Vélo South!
Taking place on Sunday September 23rd 2018, Vélo South is a major new 100 mile fully closed road sportive for the UK.
Starting and finishing on the iconic Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit, the route will take 15,000 riders on a truly unforgettable journey through the stunning West Sussex countryside and the magnificent rolling hills of the South Downs.
Other than Ride London, this is the only 100 mile closed road sportive taking place in the UK this year, so we're expecting demand for entries to be huge!
In the coming days we’re going to be announcing more event details including the much anticipated route and the process for securing your place on the start line. To be in with a chance of being one of the 15,000 riders taking part, you must pre-register.

Blimey, I didn't realise where Goodwood was! London was far enough to get to for a ride out, I don't fancy a 400 mile round trip

I think it all got bogged down in red tape - so they cut there losses and focused on a easier to organise velo down south.
Although it is rumoured no councils blocked the road closures - I don't think they had said 'yes' either - CSM are a private profit making company and took the easier more lucrative option - rumoured entry is said be £100+0 -
I've started a new thread for the new event, so we can all moan/argue about it free from this one0
