So I hadn't noticed that this is now a thing. But it takes place this week and over the weekend in Brittany (moved from Nice)

It used to be just for juniors and U23s, but now there are senior races for men and women. And both have a very healthy start list (possibly better than the Worlds).

(No UK team in the seniors, just U23 and juniors)

Riders in the men's race provisionally include...
Belgium: Gilbert, Benoot, Meersman, Hermans
France: Alaphilippe, Gallopin, Latour
Italy: Aru, Formolo, Moscon, Scarponi, Visconti, Ulissi, Felline
Spain: Sanchez (both), Moreno, Lobato, Castroviejo, Fraile
Netherlands: Poels
Germany: Geschke
Switzerland: Albasini, FRank, Reichenbach
Poland: Kwiatkowski, Majka
Czechia: Konig, Stybar, Kreuziger
Portugal: Costa
Slovakia: P.Sagan
Ireland: Martin, Roche
Estonia: Taaramae, Kangert

And the winner gets to wear a champions jersey: euro_champs.jpg

  • Are the UK not allowed in post Brexit?
  • Glasgow will be hosting in 2018, hopefully continues to grow and still attracting all the big riders by then.

Regardless of what anyone might like to think we are still part of Europe... this isn't the EU championship.

Given his crash at the Vuelta I'd be surprised if Samu Sanchez is riding...
  • France 3 and french Eurosport will be showing the race live.
Not British Eurosport though. This is one of three live races this week they will be brexiting.

Really not bothered about this - but Glasgow in 2018 could tempt me to go watch.

And the winner has to wear that thing for a year?

    Bit harsh.

It'll make a good Christmas present for Boris Johnson though.

Sergeant and Lefevere (I know! Amaze!) not 'appy

No word from Madiot yet? Hope one of his riders wins it and has to wear the jersey all year...

Hehe, but winner can't wear the jersey, can they. It's neither a Nats jersey nor the UCI-owned Worlds jersey

Oh yes they can wear it. And the UEC can make it mandatory to wear it if they so wish.

    UCI rules:
    8 Continental champion's jersey
1.3.070 If a jersey is awarded at a continental championship, the rider may wear it in all races in
the discipline, speciality and category in which he won the title and for as long as he
    continues to hold the title.
Continental confederations may impose the mandatory wearing of their continental
champion’s jersey in the discipline, specialty and category of their choosing.

Absalon and Neff both wear it in MTB races

Ach, you love it secretly. And anyway surely the winners can wear the jersey most of the time as most races are in Europe...

glad this is on as it gives us some racing to talk about, rather than TUEs etc.

Unfortunately im in Singapore with no stream to watch it. Hoping for a Sagan win, not sure if the course suits him or not.

Any other favourites in the mens ?

Just as long as it wasn't Sky. Everyone's fed up of their dominance.

I'm prepared to risk the wrath of forumites over the lack of spolier tag. Sagan won which presumably means the jersey won't be worn until the worlds.

As the thread starter I can offer you a backdated spoiler tag if anyone complains.

This is like the 1999 TDF all over again. Fancy Bears will be along to expose this forum doping

Does this mean Sagan will now wear a Stars and Stripes jersey? :D

Only when he loses his rainbow one. I assume he'll wear it. He hasn't worn a regular team jersey since June 2011.

  • Is it fair to say that 51.8% of British Riders would rather wear the National jersey than the European one?

Only because they've been promised £350m a week to spend on TUEs
