I would agree, being small can also be an advantage with less power.
As long as your watts / kg stay at a similar level to the big guy, you should be competitive with the big guy for mixed riding.
There is however, one small advantage us smaller guys have, and that's being more aero, due to a smaller surface area.
BUT, that advantage is more than overcome when riding on the flat into the wind, by the simple lack of watts compared to the big guy, where low weight has no advantage.0 -
I guess most people are looking at the averages on Strava anyway. But of course you can game the system. If I'm going to have to come to a stop anyway such as at a junction. Might as well get off my bike and have a sit down for a couple of minutes, then ride on when I'm rested - as the break isn't affecting my average!0

Maybe not as bad, but slowing down to avoid having to put the foot down is not a strategy that pays off... unless you slow enough to get to autopause...
It's all bollox... I left home at 6 AM, came back at 10AM, did 100 Km, hence 25 Km/h... argue with thatleft the forum March 20230 -

Well summed up.
Fair enough if you like to give the appearance of being a badass on the local segments to everyone who cares about how fast they can go. Unless you are racing or competing it really isn't important.0 -
well, if the game went on to extra time and penalties they could, theoretically, 20 years on, still be smacking them into the back of the onion bag.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

What we need is a system that multiplies speed by gradient with a rider weight factor added into the mix. Sorted.0

And motor. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
IME stops and starts at lights etc will generally reduce average speed however it is calculated - there is always some lag between stopping and the auto pause kicking in. I suspect it’s that lag that explains differences in calculated average speeds between devices. But in any case, unless you are deliberately trying to cheat the system your average speed over an entire ride is almost always going to be lower if any stops are involved even using auto-stop, so I don’t see any false inflation here unless perhaps you are looking at average speeds over relatively short segments where a 2 min rest in the middle could be of considerable benefit. If I wanted to show off on strava by posting a high average speed I’d go for a flat route on country roads with no stops..0
