Lugo looks nice:

AB70BCD768D09D20707F55162DCFB606FCA88E0A

Currently raining which could make the sprint interesting as it looks like there are a lot of corners on the run in.

Breakaway consists of Machado of Katusha and Morice of Direct Energie with 5-odd minutes at ~90km.

Surprising every year the lack of talk on the threads for the Vuelta!

    Reflects the lack of action.

Yeah hasn't been so amazing, yet...

A lot of the Tour stages were equally dull to be fair.

Machado at 5'25" at 53km - just right for the catch...

I have the cricket on, so no comment from me. I'm hoping bobmcstuff is going to let me know when the action starts.

Yeah, it's not the best example of a stage, it wouldn't attract any new fans, except perhaps those like BS who like an afternoon nap.

14km to go. Time to change channels. Looks like it is all together.

The lack of commentary on Vuelta threads is pretty standard... the usual post-tour lull (delayed this year due to the Olympics). I reckon the threads will heat up as we head into week 3(particularly if Froome is in with a chance :P)

Chapeau Bob for keeping things going!

Was it Kruijswijk down? He looked broken.

Meersman. Late Bouhanni move on the line, but otherwise fairly straightforward.

Froome on the back of the sprint group?

Was that Contador on the deck? Looked like his profile.

Yup, Kruiswijk and looks like Contador too for me. Looking like a Nairo vs Froomey Vuelta now.

On another note, if Nacer had of finished that sprint like Meersman did, I reckon he'd have been DQ'd.

Two Movistar in sprint group also, couldn't see if Valverde was one. Probably why Froome was chasing.

Yeah, just confirmed Valverde in 6th

Apparently (Cycling news) it is Manuele Boaro.

Complete aside. Leopard Trek need to pay €2m to Frank Schleck

Valverde finished 5th, Froome just outside top 10, but they'll ll get the same time won't they due to the late crash?

Quintana (13th) was the other Movistar rider in the sprint group so it looks like Froome has lost a few seconds to Valverde and Quintana.
  • Nothing at all happens for 3 hours and then collarbone carnage in the final 3kms.
    Vive La Vuelta.
Gaps won't stand, even if it means no red for Piti.

Chaves went down, but not badly hurt. Froome avoided the crash (it was right by him)

Sorry I rather stupidly made the mistake of trying to drive home at 4pm, only just got back...

No where on the stage today AFAIK but it is good to see Pip back in Belgian Champion colours.

Surely that's a big part of why EQS signed him for next year :P

^^ That's the GC before they adjusted the times due to the crash. Atapuma got the red jersey on the podium.
