What is your resting heart rate?

  • RHR first thing is between 48 and 52. It hovers around the mid 50s at work, but was in the 60s before I started cycling.

  • Mine's about 60 first thing in the morning, around 80 to 90 just before getting on the bike and on a 30 + mile ride at an average of 16 mph (no hills) it will be around 135 to 140 peaking at 165. I wouldn't say I'm fit, but not unfit either I am 64 years old though. - Would you say thats about right?

my resting is or was always high 90s ish however over the last 18 months is dipped to low to mid 60s, that's partly due to weight loss and an increase in effort on rides, mostly because i joined a club who seem incapable of riding anything less than balls out.

Anyway my point is I been knocking out miles for years thinking my RHR was set in the 90s I wasnt I just wasnt working hard enough to get fitter, interestingly over the last 2 months it went back up even with more miles climbing and effort, I even had to bail on a few rides as I couldnt get my MHR below 190s

Turns out i've been slowly overdoing it, a couple of easy weeks and one off and i'm back into 60s that said my max is still 202 and i can and do ride all day at 160-170+ whilst being able to talk and take my turns on the front.

I was lead to believe its the recovery rate that's key to fitness, how quickly can you go from max to normal on bike Z1.

Mine was 68 before I started riding 10+ years ago. Now it's 45 (less than my age).

Mine used to be 72, well that's the hr I got whenever I measured it while not exercising. I even got that figure at the doctor's and hospital. Always 72. My blood pressure changed though. Usually rather low. Low enough to black out if I got up too quickly or ran up a flight of stairs. I used to be incapable of just walking up a single flight of stairs so I often went a bit woozy.

Now my RHR as measured properly is now 57 to 59. The trouble is I was capable of a lot more stuff back when it was higher. My average speed was higher, I climbed.hills both on and off the bike quicker. I was.doing long challenge walks so my endurance was high. This confuses me, I had always thought lower RHR equated to higher level of fitness in an individual. As you got fitter the RHR would lower. I'm not so sure.that's true now,
  • I often check mine 1st thing in the morning while still in bed, it's normally 42-44, although if I'm well-rested will drop to 39 or 40. Max is about 190 nowadays.

During the day after my caffeine fix its usually about 60.

Seems to depend on fitness to great extent. What about age? Does it change naturally with age like your VO2 Max which declines steadily with age? Does MHR change with age also?

I'm 50 next year and always been fit. My RHR when I go for my annual pilot medical is 47-48bpm and the doc's cardio machine always prints out in red 'Abnormal'. As I am the only pilot who rides to and back from my medical (only about 40 miles but hilly) the rather unfit doc is mightily impressed and says it is due to all my cycling and how fit I am!

I can still hit 190bpm on a savage climb which must be pretty close to MHR as I am pretty pooped at the top of one of those, but suspect with a real MHR test I could eek out a few more before keeling over...!

So age, how does it effect RHR?

My normal resting is 55-60. First thing in the morning it's closer to 40.

    MHR 196.

Under 50 straight after waking up, think it was 48 but don't work behind a desk, so that's it for the day for another sedentary measurement.
