I've bought a used mega frame and cant work out how they come off to clean up the frame.
Also did you change any of the pivot bearings?
If they're the u shaped clips they just pull off, wedge a screwdriver or similar inside the clip, then twist the screwdriver and they just pop off.0 -

Do you mean the hose/cable guides in the rear triangle or the x-clamps on the frame?
The ones on the rear triangle should pop off - I replaced mine with cable ties.
The x-clamps use an alan bolt.
Didn't replace any bearings - just checked and re-torqued._______________

Yeah the ones on rear triangle, the bolts on the x clamps I've heard round off easily so going to replace them for stainless ones.
Surprised how light the frame is to be honest.0 -
I've got a couple of suspect bolts on some of the clamps - mainly the awkward ones to get too.
I've got a spare set of bolts & clamps, but considering swapping them to titanium bolts.
Yeah the frame is pretty light considering how chunky it is._______________

The original clamp screws are hopeless. I replaced mine with stainless, a fraction of the cost of titanium, more durable and literary a few grammes difference for a complete set.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

I literally just pinched them up. When removing them a few months later, three of them rounded.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

On the mega how much outer cable did you use for the rear derailleur cable, I'm thinking 3 metre more than enough?0

3m will kill it - I didn't even use that much for front & rear._______________

Oh good, never built a full suss bike before so unsure of routing of cable and allowing enough for rear shock movement.
So one of them gear cable kits will be enough.0 -

Yes the cable kit will be enough - I used this Shimano one, really nice quality - better than the Jagwire I used on my lads build.
Not the clearest shot but this is how I routed my cable:
Gives plenty of slack for movement of the suspension.
If you want any detail pics of anything let me know and I'll take some and post them up._______________

Changed my Specialized saddle for a Charge Spoon:
Must be an upgrade as my backside doesn't hurt after the other nights jaunt over the Chase! Even with the Specialized being sized correctly I still had an achey bum the next morning.
And a bit more Hope bling:

Just a heads up. Recently got a debonair sleeve for my mega to try improve the small bump compliance, glad to say it has improved it noticably. So much more supple off the top, greatly improved the ride. I'm not running crazy pressures either which i heard can be a problem, im about 13 stone all geared up and im running 210psi. Im sure a new shock would improve it even more so but for the 30 quid it cost me 2nd hand was well worth it.0

Nice. The colour even matches your Hyundai :-)
You don't need much cable slack on the Mega, it won't stretch them much on full compression.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
I was wondering about the debonair upgrade and whether it would be worth it. I think I'll get one as don't want to put too much money into this bike as I'm getting another next year.
I think I need to take a look at the cable length for gears as I've had some iffy shifts and did wonder if gear cable was still too long.0 -

The colour match wasn't intentional lol.
i could do with shortening the cables a bit as there's still quite a bit up on the bars.
Brake hoses need shortening too.
Re dodgy shifts - have you pinched the cable some where along the length? Also make sure that mech is seated properly on the hanger - I had a similar issue and hadn't got the mech seated correctly._______________

I think the cable from the bottom cable clip over the bottom pivot towards the rear of frame is a little long, I will take a look and trim it a little.
I left some slack in outer cable run as never built a full suss before so didn't know how much to have.
Debonair can will fit just need a 190x50 size.0 -
Bit of an update, went up stainburn for a quick dabble. With the debonair it feels alot better, added a single band today and it feels spot on.0

Liking the wheels, are reasons why I shouldn't get a pair? Nice build by the way0

Thanks - quite pleased with it.
Wheels are great - can't think of a reason not to get them. Free hub isn't super loud so if you're expecting a Hope'esq buzz then you'll be disappointed. It has got louder over the weeks._______________

I'll keep them in mind if I decide to get a new set. Did you weigh them your self or they superstars weight?0
-
I vaguely remember weighing them and being pretty close to the S'Star quoted weight._______________

Done a bit of tinkering on the Mega today.
Added a bit of subtle red bling to the pedals:
Finally got round to fitting these after I'd had my front wheel rebuilt with a bigger hub for the 20mm axle.
Yes, the steerer is a bit long, but want to try it at different heights to see what works best.
Looks way better with some manly 35mm stansions than the 32mm on the Fox's.
Front tyre is also now tubeless, need to sort the rear - which is a job for another day.
Also got a Sunrace 11-42 10sp cassette and 32t narrow wide to go 1x when I get round to it.

Managed to get some time for a bit of maintenance and upgrade on the Mega.
Swapped over to 1*10 with the Sunrace 11-42t and a Superstar 32t oval narrow wide.
Also swapped my wheels over to some Nukeproof Generator AM's - Carbon rims are potentially going on my HT build.
Also swapped my grips to some Peaty Lizard Skins and changed my dropper remote to a KS Southpaw.
Gearing now feels spot on as I felt I was always between gears with the 2*10._______________

looks like you've fitted a new crank as well, what do you think of the slx m7000 the finish I think looks better than the xt version.0

Well spotted!
Yes I changed the cranks as the previous cranks were a pain to fit a 32t - needed spacers or an angle grinder to stop the chain fouling.
So far so good with the new cranks, thinking of getting a set for my new HT build too._______________

Good stuff, your frame looks in decent shape. Mine has too many scuffs and marks on it.
Make sure you check the upper pivot bearings they don't seem to last long in this weather but replacements are cheap on ebay cost me £8.80 for the 4 bearings not replaced the lower swing arm bearings yet.0 -
Think my bearings need doing as I have an annoying creak coming from somewhere._______________
