To be fair even Racing Whippets probably look like fat blokes to the pro's.

The more people we have cycling the better. I don't give a hoot what jerseys they wear.

Pah, come one we all know cycling is an elitist sport, it is all about the bike we ride and the style with which we do it.

Now I'm off to throw my pristine Rapha kit on with my long pink socks and black cycling shoes, before I mount my all black carbon bike with perfectly accentuated details and carbon wheels to ride to the coffee shop and have a triple espresso. 8)

I would agree with you there, but personally I have a Sky LS jersey, as it was dirt cheap from the ebay store, but would only wear it in winter under a jacket - my personal choice, but I don't think anything less of people who I see in full team kit, Sky or otherwise.

The only other team kit I have, and I bought it purely because I like the make and the colour, and it was a phenomenal price, was some Mavic JLT Condor kit, Condor had the pro shorts on offer for £60 instead of £130 I think, and I landed a new jersey off of the bay for £25 - not worn it yet though.

  • I now have 2 main choices....but cant decide between them...
Any advice please? Brand reputation or personal experience? Style opinions?

On this occasion the Gaerne are nicer looking. But I'd still go with what fits.

Try them both on and pedal something!

  • I should have said in my original post, but these shoes are both equally as comfy so it is literally just deciding on aesthetics and brand!

I'm a Mavic fanboy myself, so you know where my vote goes ;-)

These are the shoes my gf currently has:
    prod72369_White%20-%20Black_NE_01?wid=500&hei=505
    prod133286_Black%20-%20Silver%20-%20White_NE_01?wid=500&hei=505

The bit on the Diadoras that looks primer or battleship grey, actually turns out to be a pleasant shade of silver!

So in summary, I would say go for both pairs, to cover you for winter and summer 8)

I am a fan of Shimano cycling shoes, but it really is a personal preference.

I am going to buy a pair of the R171 men's in the next week or 2 which are half black and half white, they look great and fit me well.

How about a pair of these in all black from the women's range?

    Shimano WR84 SPD-SL £109.99 - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-wr84-sp ... ens-shoes/

    Or

    Shimano RP9 £136.42 - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-rp9-road-shoes/

The latter come in black or white.

Personally I like the fact that Shimano shoes are easy to keep clean as well.

    Ah fair do's, apologies CK!
What size are you after, and what ideal budget? You can get some stupendous bargains at times, crc being a frequent 'offender'.

    Something like these 3:
    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/diadora-trivex-plus-road-shoes-2015/rp-prod140914

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/diadora-trivex-plus-womens-road-shoes-2015/rp-prod140915

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/mavic-ksyrium-elite-road-shoes-2015/rp-prod128588

If it's just between those two, and the fit and feel are identical, just go with the one you prefer the look of, otherwise you'll only hanker after it.

I yearn for some Crono, Sidi or Gaerne but I absolutely cannot find a fault with the R171. They are perfection. (Though not sexy!)

Thanks DB, :) i also ordered some of these as well (just going to return unwanted shoes!) but they haven't arrived yet! http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobi ... prod143483
I like the look of them and they have good reviews. What do you think?

They look perfectly good, all I would say is that the Ksyriums are a model up the Mavic range from the Aksiums, and it looks like they have stiffer soles. IF they have your size of course, which I am guessing they do not?
And they seem to be cheaper too.
Ah, I just realised the black and purple ones you posted are ladies Ksyriums right?
My gf really likes her Mavics.

Apologies, some other ones that you have likely seen, which may, or may not be of interest.

Are those last ones the ones you have already?

Thanks again! I ordered the wr41 but quickly put them back in the box as felt hard and uncomfortable compared to the other 2! Didn't look at the Diadoras. The gaerne shoes are futura unisex shoes.

The only negative comment about the women ksyrium is the material if the upper. It has a brushed felt upper that I worry won't stand much wear and will be a nightmare to clean.
They didn't have the white in my size unfortunately.
I'm starting to think, if it comes down to the askium and gaerne, the gearnes original price was 50 pounds more than the askium, maybe they would be better quality?

If the black ones are written off due to cleaning worries, then I too would choose the Gaernes.

    Enjoy!
