Morning all I was just after abit of advice really. I've recently taken up cycling to get fit really I'm about 5,8 and 13.5 stone on a good day. At the moment I just do a 9.4 mile loop around where I live it does have 550ft elevation according to strava. I'm do in the loop 14 mins faster than when I first started and I don't feel too bad when I finish do you think it's time to up the miles or carry on. I'd love to do the loop in under 40 mins at the mo stuck on 41 annoyingly.

Unless you only ever want to do the same 9.4 mile loop in under 40 minutes, I would try some longer different routes. You will improve your fitness by going longer, and the longer rides will help with weight loss. If you have only just started cycling, just put away the stopwatch and focus on endurance, not speed.

Weight is a big factor - even if you are 13 stone of muscle if you could lose a bit of bulk you'd go faster - but that aside I agree with the above the way to go is increase distance.

  • Add 10-15 minutes per week to your total weekly riding time for the next 2-3 months.
Make sure the riding stays fun / enjoyable.
