Perhaps slightly OT, but does white or red dye really weigh 30g per tyre?

Something to do with the addition of Kevlar threads in the G+'s plus some Graphene chucked in there somewhere.

Slightly OT but rode my Rubino 3 28c for the first time in anger today. £15 a pop from PX. They really are good. Not just a good budget choice, just properly good.

I'm always wary of Rubinos - had a pair of a rubino pro slick a few years back and they were the worst tyres I've ever had - the grip in even damp conditions was appalling - the only pair of tyres I binned because of their performance rather than because they'd worn out. Still if the consensus is they are that good I guess they are a different beast now.

They don't like damp conditions, in my experience. Fine in the dry, OK when its properly wet, but when its damp and you get those slightly greasy road surfaces, the grip isn't good. Others find them OK but I have had a few occasions where I have lost the front wheel, or rear wheel has slipped when I'm out of the saddle. Otherwise, great tyres.

I've been a fan of Rubino Pros since my Volagi came fitted with them about 6 years ago. I've not had any grip issues. They seem to roll really well and they seem to have excellent puncture resistance - I'm trying to think if I've ever had a puncture with them - I must have done but I don't know when. I acknowledge that some people report grip issues and these days I'm more circumspect in greasy conditions (I don't bounce as well as I used to) solely as a result of these reports. I think that they're a great all-round tyre for sensible money.

Is one noticeably faster or offers greater puncture resistance or any more comfortable than the other?

Ive used Open Pave CG before ( I've also used Schwalbe Ultremo ZX and Schwalbe One) but wondered if Corsa G+'s are any better or much the same ?

with the exception of one puncture from a razor sharp piece of glass causing an issue, the G+ is a great tyre. its pretty much as puncture proof as the open pave, has better rolling resistance and grip whilst descending and the wear rate is far superior to the corsa SC it replaces.

Tyre expenditure does seem to be a strange thing. Many folks will happily spend over £100 on a DA cassette when it offers nothing substantially more than a much cheaper 105/Ultegra one... and then moan about spending more than £30 for a tyre that will help keep them upright and add significantly to the riding experience. Ho hum, back on topic...

Are they the same people that are doing both though?

Usually. Then again, there's a lot of moaning in general so it is sometimes hard to differentiate!

I agree with Bobbinogs. I'm running 11 speed on both bikes with either 105 or SRAM force cassettes, and there isn't much difference at all. running gp4000s and G+ tyres gives a different feel. bith are fast but you can place more trust in the G+ tyres pretty much everywhere.

I have so many spare sets I might need to buy another couple of sets of wheels to hang them on ;-)

Aren't we talking £50 for these tyres though - if they are really noticeably better than top end race tyres from other manufacturers then I might be persuaded but I'm thinking what are the chances they are really that much of a step change ?

I suppose I could be missing out on something special but then Michelin are pushing their new Power Competition as giving an almost unbelievable 10 watts (actually scrub almost) equivalent performance boost over a Pro4 and they are £20 cheaper than the new Vittorias.

The Michelin are fantastic, cheaper and very fast indeed. Fastest tyre I've ever used. But they do seem fragile. It's always a trade off. Both GP4000iiS and One always feel "fast enough" and durable. If the G+ can be "fast enough", just as durable but plusher I'd be interested.

Good price there. Stick some latex in and they should sing, shouldn't they?

Super tempted to get some G+ now and write about them. Anthracite naturally. Skin wall won't go with my Evo

Used them since last Autumn, I cant remember ever having a puncture with them and thats after riding over some horrendous gravel, potholes and once finding a signposted "cycle route" was a dirt track that crossed a farmers field for about a mile and not actually a road.
Performance wise, I cant really tell compared to my previous Schawbe Ultremo ZX and Schawbe One tyres I've owned? The hills aren't any flatter.
Wear wise, see that nice tread pattern on the top of the Open Pave CG's ?
    vittoria%20open%20pave%20cg%20tyres%20%20-%207.jpg?itok=APBAqVpv

Doesnt last long before the middle ( or top depending which way you look at it) is totally smooth. But they're still just as rideable as slicks.

Would I buy Open Pave CGs again? Despite the comical tread that lasts 2 minutes? Certainly, just for the zero punctures.

Makes me wonder if the more expensive Vittoria Corsa tyres are worth it ?
