Chaves and Kruijswijk have just over 20s on Nibali now. Nibali not looking too happy.

Half an hour ago I was thinking that this stage was turning out perfectly for Valverde. He could sit in legitimately refusing to work and a steep ramp at the end to maybe allow him to gain a few seconds.

Don't think the time check on Nibs is accurate. Think he's a bit further back than that.

It's 25s now so not going up fast, to be fair

Chaves and Kruijswijk look calm and collected but Nibali looks like he's burying himself - to me anyway!

30 seconds by my reckoning. Should be an epic descent!

DK TV made it 30 to Nibz at the top.

Chaves and Kruijswijk up to the two chasers whose names I can't spell.

Looks like the sort of descent where being in a small group can help, not a steep freewheeling descent.

Nibz is buried, could be a tricky descent for him. He takes chances and he's seriously knacked.

Chavez will blow them all away on the final wall anyway

Though they're pulling him back anyway.

Hatch just called Tenerife "Tenerif-ay", WTF?

Gap from Chaves/Kruijswijk and Nibali holding at ~35s

Hope Darwin can hold on here, he deserves it but can't see it happening.

At the start of the stage Nibali was at +0:41, Kruijswijk at +0:43, Chaves at +2:19.

Don't know how Kruijswijk will be in a mountain TT.

I'm not sure the TT suits Nibali that much, too steep. That maybe why he originally looked to attack today. It'll be interesting to see how Chaves gets on, should be up his street.

Well people complain about defensive racing, and though today is exciting, you can see why saving it for the last climb might be sensible.

  • I've obviously been watching a different race.
To me, the RCS have given us a route more typical of a TDF than a Giro.
So what we are getting is a typical TDF, only well watered down.

At least these here Dolomites have seldom looked better.

Last few TDFs have been a procession for one dominant rider / team from about the halfway point.
This is a closely fought unpredictable contest with a several riders in contention and the jersey changing hands regularly.
    Know which I'd rather watch.

One thing this stage has done is reinforce my desire to have a holiday in northern Italy. Absolutely stunning scenery.
