Recent LBLs have been pony. Don't get the hate for MSR, it's like watching a slow burning thriller the way the tension just builds and builds gets me every time. That said, it benefits hugely from being 1st in the calendar0 -
In my view LBL suffers from being too close to the other monuments in the schedule... there's a bit of fan fatigue that kicks in.
Also, glancing at the recent winners list, it isn't exactly a list of popular riders on this forum...
2004 Davide Rebellin (ITA) Gerolsteiner
2005 Alexandre Vinokourov (KAZ) T-Mobile Team
2006 Alejandro Valverde (ESP) Caisse d'Epargne–Illes Balears
2007 Danilo Di Luca (ITA) Liquigas
2008 Alejandro Valverde (ESP) Caisse d'Epargne
2009 Andy Schleck (LUX) Team Saxo Bank

 we all know the Worlds has replaced Lombardy as the 5th monument as it's a race riders actually prepare for rather than treat as an afterthought.

I've put Flanders first as there's something about it feels more gladiatorial.
I really enjoy Milan San Remo - it's been a long winter and the approach to, and the race hitting the Poggio is really quite good....“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -

Flanders is in my eyes the heart of cycling. True, the cobbles of Roubaix are way harder, but you're riding in the middle of nowhere. Amstel Gold Race? Well I'm Dutch, know that area, know the climbs and reputation for us Dutchies and Lombardia is just not working for me...0 -
I am disappointed in the lack of Lombardy love... it's always a cracking race! And stunning too...

Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful part of the world. Seriously considered having my honeymoon there. I've been to the Church.
It's decent racing too. Decent winners list etc.
But it's hard to take it seriously when so few riders base their season around it. It's the Vuelta of the classics. The last chance saloon for those who can still be arsed.0 -
