Rockmonkey I'd be interested to know what he chose the granite chief over and why, particularly if he had considered the Uncle Jimbo.

He didn't consider the Jimbo. He does quite a variety of riding from all day xc epics to a week or two of alpine single track. He's not interested in super gnarly stuff so he wouldn't really be suited to a 160mm enduro bike.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

He seems to like it quite a lot. Certainly more than his old Camber 29er.
I know he tried a few bikes, I guess he thought it was the best in his budget.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

that's what I'm after something not too much but has a decent amount of travel front and back, going to reconsider the granite chief, I spec'd up a bike with pikes, xt 1x11 but chose the fox ctd shock over the monarch and reverb dropper seat for around 2300 I think it was total.
Have looked at pivot mach 6 but for the amount I want to spend it would only buy the frame lol0 -
I think my close to "dream build" on a granite chief was about €3000 which is cracking value. Some of the other bikes I am keen on are typically double this - like the Yeti Sbc or Transition jobs.Family, Friends, Fantastic trails - what else is there
